I don't like how alot of horror movies today are only scary because they jump out at you. That crap will make you jump even if its in the middle of barney. Being startled isn't the same as horror.

But even then, those pop-out moments are even becoming more predictable, at least to me, so that takes away the "horror" from those.

In response to the OP: I really don't watch much horror, but the ones that I have seen usually aren't based of religion, with the obvious exception of things such as the Exorcist. And to me at least, it didn't necessarily make things worse.

Yea, soon they will have to take out the suspense music so you can't possibly tell it's coming. Will be in the middle of taking a girl out to dinner and BAM. Dead man falls on the table and a bomb goes off in the parking lot.

Silent Night Deadly Night?

The problem is that most horror movies are done by people who don't really get horror.

But then it can be argued that some people who get horror shouldn't, like Rob "I'm going to have michael myers show up in every goddamn scene if he's needed or not" Zombie.

People should watch original movies like Halloween and The Thing and get their act together on suspense.

Foreign movies like [REC], Inside, and Let the Right One In take what their idea is, be it blair witch esque, suspenseful, or down right creepy, and do it right. Hollywood's replaced it with titties and gore, and then they wonder why people rave about "indie" movies.

But then, I'm still waiting for Trick 'r Treat, Warner Bros better actually release it this time. Been waiting for this since it first showed up
