By the end of high school you need 80 hours of community service or you can't graduate.

Yeah, I slept and talked in school, had barely any credits, and had 0 hours of community service during mid junior year when I dropped out. Now I go to nightclass, showing up = passing, not sure how the credit system works, but as long as you show up you're good to go, that's it. Of course you have to do the work in school, if you show up and do nothing obviously they won't let you graduate and get your high school diploma.

Not showing up to a class and not receiving the credits for that class, makes sense. The certain amount of hours thing I'm pretty sure is real, though you have to pass on top of that obviously. Summer school works off that time thing here, which is why summer school is only a month, but each class is 3 hours, which totals up to near what a full school year would be.

60% or more to pass here in Quebec. Losing credits for missing study hall? We don't have study hall type of thing here. The teachers provide the material for those who care about passing and the others are usually left behind unless provided with a valid reason for missing. To graduate though you need to do some dorky Economic projects and do some dumb things, but you can graduate without it and go to adult ed for a few weeks and get up to 8 credits just from a free journal program if you're missing any.

EDIT: We don't have "night classes". Our adult ed center is like a real school without the chances. You sign up for adult ed, you are commited to show up and gtfo ASAP (meaning graduate). There are plenty of people on waiting lists and they examine each student carefully and kick them out accordingly. The classes are 8:30am-11:30am, 12:20pm-3:20pm, 3:45pm-6:00pm every day of the week and each class has a specific time. You can basically take an entire highschool courseload and finish 1 entire highschool year within half the normal time (15 weeks to be exact).
