But in all seriousness, I'd get a slightly used Civic or Corolla. Potential 30 mpg unless you always floor it, and capacity is decent along with storage space.

You can probably get a used Accord that's in good shape.

Better than Civics, slightly more expensive on purchase, but better insurance, if I remember correctly.

Get an early to mid 90's Civic for $3000-$4000. Spend the rest on mods.
