White, but I don't really care what people call me. People can call me black for all it matters.

It doesn't really matter what I'm called when it comes to my friends, because we joke around a lot (Being racist sometimes lol) but yeah, but if a random stranger says it, I'll probably be like and who are you? I don't really get offended easily.

Re: What do you prefer to be called?

It's all about who whines the most. And certain minorities have more complaining power than most.

I was born in Bulgaria. That's right across the Black Sea from the Caucasus Mountains. So I'm just about as Caucasian as anybody else. But Caucasian is meant to be synonymous with "white". As far as I understand it, "white" is typically a blend of lots of things - German, Italian, Spanish, French, and who knows what else. I certainly have no relation to that definition of "white".

I'm three-quarters Bulgarian and a quarter Arabic. I don't see how that makes me white. But I supposedly fit the description of "white" as good as anybody else does.

My main point to all of this is that these names are all stupid, and the attempt to categorize 6.8 billion people into five cookie cutter stereotypes is not really going to work.

I even think the term "American" is a stupid term. Guess what, folks? "America" contains North AND South America. Canadians are American. Brazilian people are American.

What term you use to describe yourself is your own personal choice, but regardless I think of it as discounting yourself and your identity. It's no better than identifying yourself by saying "I'm an AMD user" or "I use Apple products" or "I drive a Mazda" etc.

PS - If your grandparents were born in the US and you're a mix of 10 different nationalities with no particular tie to any of them, you're from the States. Your not German, you're not Irish, you're not this or that. You're just plain old f'in you, and you shouldn't have to hide behind a cultural identity you have barely any ties to so you can define yourself.

You ignore the fact that African-Americans developed their own culture in America...because of...you know...the whole racism thing that dominated the country up until a few decades ago.

Re: What do you prefer to be called?

I find the topic of social inequities ridiculously difficult to debate.

Reversing the social inequity to try to counterbalance it is not removing the social inequity. I find it laughable when a company calls themselves "equal opportunity" AND says they're into "affirmative action"... so, since black people are discriminated against, favoring them in the workplace based on their skin color suddenly becomes "equal opportunity"?
