Yes, your motherboard has to support Intel Processors, more importantly quad core Intel since you want the Q6600

I've added a motherboard that I think will do the trick... can anyone verify that the chipset is right?

Edit: Nevermind about the DVD and hard drives, I've got them all SATA now.

I ordered this mobo for a friend of mine, and when we plugged in the PSU, it fried, and we ended up getting an Intel. Just my bad experience w/ Asus.....

Oh yeah, like everyone else said, Intel > AMD (I have had VERY bad experience w/ AMD) and I think you're set, but let someone else verify the chipset.

Hey, I actually just got a computer from Newegg based on FFR and experienced computer folks.

First things first, don't ever let anyone tell you what your upper bound on hard drive space should be. I have nearly 1.5TB and I've filled about 600 gigs so far. It would be more, but back in the day when I only had 410GB, I had to burn most of it to DVD or delete it. This was when 120 GB was the standard, mind you. Times change, fast. Go big.

As a note, I decided to go with DDR3 RAM. Benefit and vice: It's fast, but hot. It's great, but not widely supported. That intel board I got was the only board that actually met the requirements for everything I wanted. I know I should've picked the board first and everything after that, but I was met with complications.

Also, the Video Card comes with VGA-DVI adapters, just like the Mobo comes with SATA cables (unless you get Open Box or OEM which is what you have above).

Another thing, don't call NewEgg to ask if it'll work. They won't tell you. They only sell the parts.

And another thing most people won't tell you. Most new motherboards don't have PS/2 input. You must have a USB mouse and keyboard to interface with it.

And another thing (srsly). You need a big case. You don't necessarily need lots of fans (my case only has 2 case fans, the PSU, CPU, and video card have their own) but you need space. Video cards about about 8 inches long now.

That wall in the middle of the board is the video card. It's almost as long as the motherboard and comes within an inch of the hard drives.

And finally, most people these days seem to think that you don't need a sound card. I agree with that sentiment. The board comes with 7.1 surround (and more). Only if that fries would you need a sound card.

I agree, there is a lot you can do with a quad core. Although it's not the best for gaming.

Yes, there's a lot you can do with a quad-core. Although I'm not experienced in any of those areas, I think you could get away with a dual-core for any of those activities and be just fine. I don't think those activities absolutely require the 4-cored beast.

The processor I used is $15 more, uses 45nm tech, has a bigger cache, has a higher clock speed, and won a customer choice award.

But it's up to you.

Your case is big enough, but I (and many others) would recommend not using the stock PSU.

Oh hell yes. Screw Vista...my girlfriend just got a new laptop with Vista and I don't even know what to do with the cursed thing. I was looking at refurbished PCs from Dell and the like, but nobody carries anything without Vista, so I just had to build my own.

edit: I think I'll place my order at midnight tonight, unless any major issues come up. Let me know if you see anything

I don't know about raidmax having the best power supplies, so I would suggest getting the case and power supply seperately (unless it's like antex or something)... Because usually those psu's fail or are crappy if they come WITH the case...

As for your processor, I'd HIGHLY suggest getting one of the 8000 series intel processors... Even from the dual-core line, they're screaming. They take down temperatures, they improve speeds, they overclock better, they take less power, and all it costs is like $15 more... Wish I had built my new computer now, because I'd be able to save what would've been almost $100 to get a better processor than the 6750 (still not bad)...

I'd suggest this one, which is the same speed as your current one for about the same price... Or THIS ONE, which is only $10 more than the last one, and is 3ghz. I'd really suggest going with the 3ghz one, only because it's at an amazing price.

As for sound card, I prefer this one, only because it's $1 more, and it's 7.1 channels, and it's better rated. I have that one, and it sounds wonderful.

Also, I couldn't help but notice that you don't have RAM listed on your list of things to buy... Kinda important. I'd advise getting a 2gb stick or 2x1gb sticks, because 2g is nice, and if you use a single stick, you could easily upgrade in the future.

I think that's all I have to say.

EDIT: If you do indeed need RAM, I'd advise getting this, only because it looks reliable (good ratings), and it's 2gb for a good price. It fits your mobo specs, so it should work fine.
