A friend and I actually share a notebook that we write in. We've filled up six notebooks this year.
Even if I had a cell phone that could text, I think I'd prefer writing over texting. We write very long entries and if I were to try to text something like that, my phone would be taken away for sure.
Plus there's more personality in writing, and I have something I can look back on years from now.
Surprisingly, no teachers have tried to take it away. It probably looks more professional than writing actual notes, so maybe they think I'm really working.

i remember one time in grade 7 we had a "chatroom" going around the class. we called it moe's/joe's cafe (the name changed whenever we ran out of room). It was half of a notebook where in the right margin was a list of "whos online" and you had screennames and everything and whenever you left, you would just erase your name from it.. it was awesome! it went on for about 7 months before we got caught. and by then everyone in the class had written something in it and wrote inappropriate stuff in it.. anywhoo.. when the teacher finally caught it, she said that we didnt do a good job of hiding it from her (yet we hid it fot 7 months lol). there was so much swearing in it and everything.. she took it home with her, read it ALL and took it to the principal... then she came up to me and said, you didnt mean anything you said in that book did you? and i obviously said no and i got away with it (even though i was the "co-owner" of it all lol) and everyone else got a call home from the principal and they had to say what they wrote in it and everything lol it was a fun time XD
