You should get one of those water-frogs. They are hip.
Or you could just type in "PET" on Ebay, and buy whatever comes up.
      Sincerely,

Just negotiate. Ask her why there are no cats allowed, and prove her wrong. Crying on command works wonders.

It actually isn't legal for a landlord to forbid you pets, though if they put it explicitly into the lease and you signed without reading/protecting you might be screwed.

But there have been all kinds of studies linking the owning of pets to better mental health, and in Canada anyway, it is actually against the law to forbid someone to keep pets.

However, there are certain buildings that specifically have rules for no dogs or crap like that.

Cats are usually so quiet and easy to hide. Make sure the cat is neutered and it will be less likely to meow and yowl in search of a mate. Keep the litter clean and vacuum frequently. As long as there is no smell and tumbleweeds made of hair rolling out the door what can the guy do? Search your apartment? I say go for it.

We rent part of our house (upstairs) to a woman. We didn't know she got a cat until she opened the door one day and it ran out to greet ours. The only sign was the slight sound of pitter patter of paws very early in the morning.
The weight of what I say depends on how you feel.

People agree to all kinds of things that they don't actually have a legal reason to agree to.

I've lost count of the number of stores with a "We don't take 100's/50's" signs up, and there's no legal basis for that either.

I mean...obviously if you decide you want 50 cats in a bachelor apartment, you're almost certainly falling afoul of other aspects of your lease/health & safety stuff, and it is -absolutely- possible that the US laws are quite different from canadian ones, but here, it is punishably illegal for a landlord to forbid you having a pet if you want one.

Bingo. I just could've sworn they had a "no dogs, cats are ok" policy.
