At least she didn't end up receiving 40 lashes (since it was her original punishment).
I've heard that she spent a number of days in jail and got deported back to her home country.

Yay, religious differentiation is fun! If the damn kids wanna name their teddy bears Muhammed, let them fwocking name it that and leave it at that. Many hispanic children are named "Jesus" even if it's pronounced Hay-soos. However it is the same base, showing respect and interest in a certain culture. If someone has a problem with your religion, then they can leave the area and ignore the fact that you think differently. If you are a communist who believes in dictatorships and having the entire populace believe in the same religion, you are a selfish prick who will probably take a lot of crap and end up with a full-scale rebelion on your hands.

The amount of complete ignorance of Islam and this story is glaring in this topic.
First of all, the bear was voted to be named Mohammed by the class, because of the most popular kid in class.
Secondly, Mohammed is a sacred name in Islam. People name their children that in hope for channelling some of the spirit of the prophet. But it is extremely sacrelige to name anything that does not have a chance to honor him, such as pets, or teddy bears.
Also, STOP COMPARING IT TO CHRISTIANITY. Jesus and Mohammed are NOT in equal status.
This would probably equate to a class naming a teddy bear Hitler.
Admittedly, the reaction was a bit extreme. Execution and lashes are a bit much. But, you need to keep in mind that the press only publishes the radicals. The majority of the Islamic world thought it was rediculous, too.Comment
