No, no, no, the only reason I'm taking out the harddrive is because even though the guy who placed the order made a note saying they were NOT authorized to run a sweep they still might scan it and reinstall windows. Since I can't turn on the computer to back it up, they told me my best bet is to take out the harddrive and back it up on something else. The tech sat there and explained to me which part to unscrew to take out the harddrive.
I'm gonna take it somewhere and see what can be done. Maybe my files can be backed up in the five or so minutes of power I have left.
And, yeah, when I ran my cell phone through the washer I tried to take it apart so it could dry out better.
Ok all you need is an AC pin resolder. Since you have Gateway service they will only replace the motherboard. If you take your HDD to a local PC repair store they can hook up the HDD externally and back up your docs/pic/files to a dvd. If and when you do send in the repair to Gateway they will format your machine. I see this repair (ac pin resolder) at least 2 times a week. All labor work can do for as low as 60 if you hassle the repair place enough.
So, I got my computer back yesterday (Thursday). I was so excited I rushed upstairs and plugged it in, only to see that the light that comes on when the computer is plugged into the adapter (whether it is charging or not), did not come on.
Finding this odd, I twisted the adapter around to see if I could get it to work. Nothing.
I decided to start the computer up, hoping to "jump start" the adapter. When I opened the computer, I noticed that a piece that had broken off had been replaced -- an out-of-warrany repair I did not authorize.
Still no charge.
They didn't fix the problem.
I called Gateway seething with rage, the dumbass on the line had the nerve to laugh, and then got to feel my wrath as I bitched at him for laughing at my situation.
Basically the first work order was either not understood or not properly written, so the technicians just looked for whatever could be wrong, replaced the bevel, and sent it back.
So today I had to ship it BACK to Gateway, this time completely free of charge, since I've already paid them $44 to do nothing. I'm going back to Texas tomorrow, and I can't have the laptop delivered to my house there, because Gateway can't promise that DHL will require a signature on delivery, and if the box were to be dropped on my porch and left there all day while my roommates and I were out, someone would steal it. So I have to have it shipped to Andy's mom's house, which means they'll probably stick her on their mailing list and she'll hate me. =(
Gateway really does suck. I should know. I'm on one right now. And you know what? This will be the last manufactured third-rate piece of **** I ever buy as long as I've got hands and arms to put a computer together.
****, I'm considering starting a computer-building business, a kind of custom-shop where I build computers from the ground up based on what the person wants, with one major difference from places like Alienware: I wouldn't charge $2000 for pretty case lights and a warranty (those will still come included).
I'm about to get into building laptops as well.
