Trends are stupid. They're just as bad as sticking a label on yourself.

Which brings us to the conclusion that if you're going to try to start a trend, find a fashion designer.

Companies that I would probably give trends to:
          -Nike
          -Possibly South Pole
          -BCG

            Re: Trends.

FFR needs to create a trend. Shirts that say "I only use one hand..." on the front, and "On FFR" on the back. Turn a couple heads.

ITT: Purebloodtexan shows everyone that he knows nothing about fashion.

It seems music plays a large role in categorizing trends. Folk and Psychedelic Rock in the 60's. Heavy Metal, Punk, Disco in the 70's. New Wave, and Hip-Hop in the 80's. Rap, and Grunge in the 90's. Pop-punk/Emocore in 00's.

It's not to hard to see how a trend starts. The whole pop-punk fad started with the popularity of Offspring's "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" which got their album a lot of airplay, which in turn, popularized the genre of Pop-Punk. It was Blink-182 that really kicked it off the whole fad, though, with Enema of the State (which I must admit, is just one catchy song after the other. I'm biased though, I grew up listening to the album). Bands like Sum 41, Good Charlotte, and Fall Out Boy soon followed. Songs about heartbreak and atypical high school romance were popular subjects for Pop-Punk bands, which shifted the perspective of the music industry to instead focus on promoting more rock influenced bands that followed this formula.

In discussing the origins of the popularity of emocore, it's important to pay homage to Weezer, which started the whole ostracizing of emo-kids. Those who were really into Weezer were typically nerds, who are a social group that is made fun of anyway. Weezer-fags were generally characterized by their black-framed glasses.

Exactly how the trend went from "indie-emo" to hardcore is beyond my knowledge, since I know very little about the whole emocore fad. I imagine AFI played a role in the popularizing of hardcore music.

Anyone more versed in emocore want to elaborate?

Right now, "indie" is gaining popularity, which I believe was also spurred by the Pop-punk fad. Pop-punk turned a lot of people onto other punk subgenres and punk ideologies, including the DIY ethic which is the foundation of indie music.

Note: I'm simply discussing fads, not the origins of the music genres.

I don't know...some hip fashion company that actually is relevant to the fashion world and has the ability to sway consumers into following your trend. However, fashion trends are usually accompanied by a cultural trend. You need idols (movie starts, pop stars, etc) to popularize your design. Because no one is going to buy into your idea if it is just you pitching it, "Hey guys, I have this great idea about what the next trend is going to be, but...you'll have to take my word for it."

                      Ah. I see your point.

Well, Nike basically covers the whole "idol" deal. Just about all of my favorite athletes endorse Nike gear.

I mean a few years ago it was like skater/punk, then emo, then scene.
                          What's next?
Wait, I thought scene was emo. What's the difference? Anyways, I think their's gonna be some kind of hippie movement next, then in the far future a huge electonic faze where tons of futuristic stuff is going to be created and techno will get popular .

I usually wear athletic clothes all of the time, and so do a good portion of my friends and teammates. I think that it'd be good stuff on and off the field.
