Alright guys, I'm going to set the record straight. Emo is a label for people, and music genre. It originally started out as a type of music that expresses helpless emotions in a fashion different from it's forefather; goth. The music prayed on the weaker people in the same way that Britney Spears prayed on weaker females. Because of this, people eventually began to "copycat" the emo music, and began overdressing and trying to be like who they think is cool. Emo music today is often mis-represented with the labels of Alternative and Punk Rock

Of corse, it all makes sense now, when I hear punk music, it uses emotion which meens all of that music is emo. It is used as a label, but has a different meening, it makes sense now.

well i don't think thats exactly it, i think emo is a state of mind in which you have almost irrational depression and where normal emotions can be very exagerated, also emo is more of a label than it is a music genre. You act like your "emo" and you are. If you are emo and you make a band that's emo music because in general they portray their confused twisted emotions through their music and thats when all they problems start. But i do agree about the emotions part, I think it all starts with unbalanced emotions so yeah blame emotions for emo people, and then beat them with a lantern.
