I'm sorry, but you've made a massive generalization which has cut extremely deep and I have to refute that claim, citing myself as evidence. =)
I must agree with this. As a guy, I have recieved many compliments from both sexes on my advice. I know Neon IRL, he is a very good man who speaks the truth, and always has the positive thing to say.
Anyway, enough boosting Neon.

Upwards of 75% of the males I know and/or hang out with are extremely logical and helpful, even if they don't show it up front.
May I lend myself as an example?

yea but generalisations are never good imo
it's just like saying most girls want your money
diamonds are a girls best friend
stuff like that
idno...ive just always got along better with guys
I firmly believe it's a matter of compatibility. The way a person phrases things, and the way someone else interprets them and responds to them plays a huge part in giving and receiving advice of any sort.
In addition, some people feel a more passive conversation while talking with males, and others may feel a more passive conversation with females.
However, this is getting horribly off-topic and I think this had better be my last post in the thread for the night.
EDIT: I'll close with a blunt response to the original poster's question. Do I, personally, need a girlfriend? No. I have friends to turn to in troubling times who I know can and will help me out. However, some (if not most) people do feel a need for closer companionship. This is where boyfriends/girlfriends come into play. They are there -- especially in younger ages -- to support one another.

*Off-topic* What have I told you about getting some sleep? Tisk Tisk Tisk, sleep now.
*Back on topic* My ex girlfriend, never, NEVER ...let... me pay for anything. I would have to argue with her to let me pay. I was raised being taught that the Man should pay for the woman, although I don't see a problem with the lady paying for herself.

well in my opinion a gf is good for a guy cus girls usually keep guys in check and keep you from doing stupid stuff plus life is funner when you share it with a girl that you like
Don't get me wrong, girls looooove to be spoiled, but I agree, in this day and age, we need to pay just as much money as you boys. Dutch is the way to go.
