I wanted to go see this when it was playing at the small cinema that plays obscure movies, but never did, think I forgot about it. Only remembered again when ODI had a thread about it. I want to see it pretty badly, guess I'll have to wait for the DVD.

Did you see it then, Jason?

                Re: Anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth?

It was incredible, just not in the way I thought it was going to be. The trailers play it off as a fantasy film, but it really isn't. The film itself is very brutal, sad, even scary at parts...which I certainly wasn't prepared for.

It was incredibly well done though, taken as what it is. I just wish people would stop using false advertisement, or at least rate the movie R because I can see people bringing their kids to this, which is a horrible idea XD

I mean, it's incredible realistic, and very very powerful...but

Schindler's List anyone? I mean, the film just gets going and

                *spoiler*

the captain is already smashing a guys face to death with a beer bottle, shoots the other guy in the head and no the camera does not cut, nor is that the end of the violence XD

The Captain was one of the most frightening film characters I've seen.

                    Yes

I definitely hated him with every ounce of my body through just about all of the film. And especially at the end...I mean, how low can he go? ;(

I guess the end could be taken on a good note too. It was interesting how it was left open to interpretation.

But uh yea, I personally think the film would have been better had they ditched the false advertisement. I can see people disliking this film because they were expecting something it isn't, but anyone that is ready to see an extremely powerful film will be impressed.

Pretty much all of the fantasy in the film is shown in the trailer. Yes, every bit of it. What they arn't showing you is the rest of the movie, which is incredibly violent. I was also confused at some points, it seemed slightly choppy and I would have liked some more explaination and background to the characters because they were underdeveloped (at least the fantasy characters). I know what the director was trying to do, and the film is well crafted, but many people probably won't like this movie ( I think a lot of people are probably just saying they like it because the critics had an orgasm over this film XD ).

Yes I know I'm bumping, but I just saw this movie today.
When I was ordering the tickets, I saw that it's rated 14A. Now...WHY they chose this rating, I have no idea. Nonetheless, I'd have to agree with everyone; it was pretty amazing from start to finish if you don't mind the gore.
The captain may have been figuratively frightening, but "eyes-in-my-hands" guy was pretty damn creepy too.

I never saw a trailer for this. From what I hear, that was probably a good thing.

It was one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life.

also lmfao @ people calling it a horror film just because the director is famous for making horror films. It's DEFINITELY not a horror film ><

I'm currently in the process of trying to get a small local cinema to bring it back, with the "promise" that plenty of people want to see it.

                              Here's hoping.

                                Re: Anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth?

I watched it and absolutely loved it. Definitely one of the best. I think it was meant to be more like a fairy tale though, because they used a fantasy base to revolve the plot around and to teach the message that the writer wanted to portray. Yes, a lot of the movie was real world, and someone going into the movie expecting to see some brilliant fantasy would be disappointed. But, anyone who wants to watch a really deep movie with amazing writing and an amazing message will love it. I've been tempted to open up a thread where people can talk about what the end means to them either in Media or CT, but anyone who went in without having seen it would have it ruined for them and such =P, but yea.

                                GREAT MOVIE!
