Most people aren't that perceptive.

If you keep a pile of gifts you've been opening, just put it under something until you can get the disc back in, or take the box to the console as soon as everyone's done opening presents. Then it looks like you already opened it and put it in.

Yeah, that's a good point though.
I never ask for anything for Christmas though, I just get whatever people think I want, no real reason for me to be impatient.

That used to work.

Now that I have my interests set, it's impossible to buy gifts for me.

Put yourself in my parents' place. I like computers and video games. Would you buy a video game for me without asking me? No. I probably wouldn't like it or I'd already have it. Would you buy me some RAM sticks or other hardware? No. What if I don't need it? What if it doesn't work with my motherboard?

All they can buy without asking are clothes, and even then I can't just be like "ok this site has lots of clothes just surprise me". I tell them what shirts to order.

The spirit of being surprised at christmas died a long, long time ago. Back when I used to have lists of things I wanted that were dozens of items long and always wondering what they'd choose to get. My list is now four items long and it's pretty obvious what I'm getting.

It's hard having friends who are the exact same way. What am I supposed to buy them? They have everything I have and if they don't, they don't want it. We usually don't even get each other anything. I might get one of them some candy or something. Not a bag or anything. Like a thirty cent hershey bar.

Yeah, I pretty much just ask for money, then get what I need. Like this year I'll hopefully get enough to get two 1 gb sticks of RAM for my laptop. I definitely need that.

Maybe this was my ultimate failure. I never had these "lists" you speak of with dozens of things I want. I never believed in Santa Claus to begin with so I didn't bother writing him a list. I was so convinced that they'd mail that list to him, that I absolutely refused to write one for them thinking they'd be wasting my time later taking me to the post office to buy stamps to mail the letter.

lists never work for me because all my parents buy their Christmas presents sometime in the fall, so if I do make one before they buy my present, they say "Don't you think it's a little early to have a Christmas list?"... *sigh* (almost) all the things I want are all over $100 anyways, so it's not likely that I would get anything on my list... they usually figure out something that's at least okay, like a T-shirt (they're getting better at choosing these) and a gift certificate or something

My mom tries to get me into the Christmas spirit and all, but I see no point. When I was little, there used to be surprises on Christmas day, now I'm with her when she busy the presents to make sure that she doesn't get the wrong thing. And 90% of the time, I just get envelopes with 20's in them from everybody else. No complaints though.

It really is hard to restrain yourself from telling your parents what to get. Like as Squeek said, as the older you grow, the more set your priorites will become. You can't be swayed by random gifts.

I still find it surprising and most often disappointing as to what I get when I actually open my presents on Christmas day, but that is not my main focus, I'm a goody two shoes, I'm looking for that Christmas spirit of giving.

Meh. Money is good this year since there are way too many gotta-have Wii titles coming out in the first half of 2007.
