and if Synth ever reads this thread, this is my opinion:

I saw Synth in another thread tell someone that we won't ever have pop-ups, and that we shouldn't be complaining for being able to use the website for free.

First of all, not only do these ads annoy the hell out of me when I see them, but they degrade the look and appeal of the website as a whole. You see those ads on myspace and addictinggames and all that kind of crap. I rarely go on addictinggames anymore BECAUSE of them. Myspace I can tolerate because I take myspace as a joke to begin with...but to see them on a website that i've been faithful to for over three years is just ridiculous. One thing you have to remember before you start telling people that they should tolerate the ads is that you WOULD NOT have this kind of website WITHOUT us. Just try and think where the place would be without a bunch of the regulars here and the people who were regulars and left. I'm not sure if i'm the only one who finds this stuff annoying, but hopefully some of my fellow regulars do. I have no intention of leaving the site because I am somewhat tolerant to this crap for a while, so don't take it as "oh well she doesnt appreciate what we do for her, let's give her a perma-ban so she'll regret it". Not only would the site not be quality, you wouldn't have some of the memories all of us have created together, which is also a very important part of this website (as cheesy as it sounds).

Second of all, why did you even put in the FFR profile part of the website? Okay, it was fun for maybe a few days, but just look at the type of people this main feature has attracted. I see FFR profiles where people state "im on this thing b/c my friend from school told me to go on here and make a profile". Okay, great. Are these the types of members you want? Did it ever occur to you that a lot of us go on this website to try and differentiate ourselves from these low life lame people so we can be with others that share similar interests and personality traits? Maybe you didn't realize that some people like to get away from that crap, because it IS infesting schools. It's not going to be long before the forums start getting more and more of these idiots who take pictures of themselves from retarded angles and put them on their ffr profiles. Recently I've been in the chat pretty often and I notice a large amount of these types of people I have a deep dislike for (and I know others do as well) coming in there. It would be one thing if they actually CONTRIBUTED to anything, but they just tell their emo preppy friends to come in the chat and they continue to have conversations with eachother as they would on an instant messager, disregarding the fact that NO ONE wants to read their conversations and no one cares. I know you can't close of the website or anything like that, but I think a lot of the people who actually mean something to the website would be a LOT happier without these myspace-esque features and annoying/disturbing ads.

So maybe you should think about that before telling a user that they should be grateful they can be on the website for free. I'd personally rather make a small donation to the website every year or 6 months than have to put up with these types of crap people and retarded ads.

edit: Oh, and all of my sentences are poorly phrased and most have pretty bad grammar. I'm not taking the time to go back up and edit everything, but I apologize for that minor inconvenience. (It sort of bothered me reading it over again, but whatever.)

I don't mind the ads, I just don't like the flashing ones. And if the site ever got popups, then it would really bring down the quality.

I agree. 100%. Even though I havent' contributed all that much to the site, I have some pretty good memories with some people on the site. This site HAS helped me grow in a sense because I would probably classify myself as an intellectual now. I mean, look at my early posts and compare them to the ones I make now. I am a lot more literate and I also feel like I think a lot more, which has led to me rethinking my life. Without thinking, I probably wouldn't be alive right now because of my deep depression with my family. This is going off on a tangent, but really, FFR has helped to make me a better person on the Internet, in real life, and just overall in general. FFR was the first forum I had ever joined, and it is the only one I regularly go to. It is extremely disappointing to see how low the site has to sink down to in order to feed the demand of the growing site. The reputation of the site has always been extremely good, but I feel like it is going to get to the point of the latest "fad" with teenagers filled with angst, thus turning FFR into the new myspace. Disappointing, depressing, and just a little bit disgusting. I also come on here to discuss things with people who are actually semi-intelligent. Myspace.. I use it to keep in touch with friends and meet new people, but I dont' go on there to get mentally stimulated. CT has done a lot for me, especially coming out as a homosexual because I really feel like the deep debates in that forum really contributes to my overall mindset as a person. And, this may sound corny to everyone that is reading it, but it really is 100% true. FFR has changed my life and it will probably be a great memory of mine from the Internet. It would be sad to see it turn bad.

Same exact relationship I have with the website. I consider myself much more intelligent from being here. I have a well rounded sense of humor and I've had interactions with people I would have never gotten the chance to if I never joined this community. This is my first forum, as well. I had family problems and the website was my outlet through the whole ordeal. A lot of people are like us, too, in this situation.

I was like "Whoa, Flashy Ad". I don't really care. It doesn't bother me. I suppose it can degrade the "image" of the site, but I'd like to see the people who disagree with it donate some money. As for the Profiles, Synth has already stated that he wants to create a site for all types of people to enjoy. Us regulars are a minority compared to the overall site, and I really don't feel that the type of people, stereotyped as they are, are actually degrading the forum part; the part we actually care about.

I still don't buy the whole "Without us the site would be nothing", as it does feel that way, and as we like to think it works that way, FFR is bigger than us.

Now, that doesn't mean I don't agree with the opinions stated thus far. I infact do agree with a lot of Jurs's points. Sure, I'd love the site to go back to the way it was 2 years ago. The people, atmosphere, it was great. FFR's community in it's prime. I just don't think the way we are going at it is the right one. I suppose I've not one too much for valor and honor and the integrity of stuff like some of you are, but I can tolerate it for the good of the site overall.

Also, I bet if a poll was made, a lot of the the regulars would pay yearly forum fee's if they weren't more than $10-$15.
