Since filext.com recognized the extention, I really doubt its a virus. It appears to be a valid video file, and it is literally impossible to properly encode a virus into a video file. It's possible to encode it into the codec, but not the video file itself.
That's why I asked if he had "view file extensions" on. You'd be suprised how many people open something called picture.jpg that's really picture.jpg.exe.
