Re: Sonic 2 defeated: 21 mins
42 minutes is NOT a WR of super metroid... here is a 36
x run in 5 segments: http://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?SuperMetroid_036
here is a 38
x run, single segment: http://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl...Metroid_SS_038
so, yea... also, i've found a lot of the stuff on TG to be bogus, regardless of their "verification" methods. Like, I'm the WR holder of a few Top Gear Rally scores, as per http://geocities.com/n64highscores/TopGearRally.html but as per TG, the top time on Coastline is 1:04, a time that is, IMO as an "expert" on the game, bogus. And my times are much faster than any other record on their site for the game.
I don't trust the stuff on TG... *shrugs*
EDIT: Rai... they are different genres. TAS' are like Techno... machine generated. They take plenty of skill to do well, and are impressive... but nothing will replace someone actually PLAYING the game. Speed runs are like classical or jazz... it won't be perfect, but it will be damn close, and is impressive because of what the person can make the character do. Like the 70-star run of Mario64. It is the most amazing run I've ever seen. The guy pulls off so many crazy stunts without dying once, and the tricks get harder and harder as he progresses later into the game. http://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?Mario64_SS_10132
