Haha. Blame the COMPANY WHO MADE A CONSOLE for the games other companies produce. That's rich.

Hey, Microsoft! People use your Operating System to download porn! Take responsibility! Also, your country's moral standards suck!

Honestly, if I were the Ambassador reading that letter, I would give him the finger and get him fired ASAP. He essentially dissed the entire country of Japan, saying that it's one large pornographic country whose moral standards are so low that children think porn is OK.

Quick, better sue stores that sell the PS2 also, because THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE SELLING. You also better sue television stations that advertise the PS2. And then you better sell the manufacturers of televisions because THEY KNOW WHAT GETS ADVERTISED ON TV. Uh-oh! But that would require suing Sony again!

I think pretty much everyone has heard about this, but PA made his donation for him, and he attempted to get them arrested, calling their site "an extortion factory". The link goes to the beginning of the events, the rest of the stuff about it is in later news posts.

I predict that whatever little reputation Jack Thompson has left will whittle away after this gets shown on the news.
Will anyone even believe him? I hope not. Whoever does is likely paranoid. =/

I'm going to continuously point out how much of a moron he is until he sues me. Seriously, with his "Sony is bad because they are a console that displays games that are bad" logic, how can he win? It's like saying, "WE MUST SUE BENQ! THEY PRODUCE MONITORS THAT ARE CAPABLE OF DISPLAYING PORN WHEN HOOKED UP TO THE INTERNET AND PROVOKED BY THE USER!" Real great. When is Jackie Boy going to realize how much of a moron he is?

The thing is, I can't think of a single place that sells M-rated games that doesn't check ID first if the person looks underage. GameStop does, EB does, even Best Buy and Walmart and those kinds of places do (or are supposed to, if they don't). The ESRB ratings are like the ones for movies... pretty much publically accepted, but not government enforced therefore making it so the government can't inflict capital punishment on places that ignore said rating while selling their product.

In other words, kids under 17 with an M rated game either have an older sibling, friend, or idiotic parent that got it for them.

When I sell an M-rated game that I know is going in a house with kids that aren't in high school yet, I always tell whoever is buying it what exactly is in the game and why it's rated the way it is. I have yet to see someone who had a response other than "I already know" or "It's no worse than what they see on television."

Hey, look, a reference to another form of media that is just as capable of brainwashing kids. Why doesn't Jack Thompson attack CSI or Law & Order or any other cop show that tends to have lots of violence in it? It's harder to police what kids see on TV than it is what video games they play. Unless the kids are making their own money to buy what they want, they're not going to own anything a parent says "You can't have this" towards.

I think in Illinois if a store was to sell me an M rated game they could be fined something like 50k, I am probably way off.

Also, my parents got me gta3 for Christmas without me asking.
                      I haven't killed anyone yet.

I believe state governments can do stuff like that, just not the federal government.

I think the only reason Jack Thompson attacked video games because since video games aren't fully established as mainstream entertainment, he thinks he can get the uninformed public to hold a bias against them. He also knows that parents in general often don't even know what content is in a game they bought for their 10-year Timmy, and can play on the shock that would appear in the parent's faces that come after they find out.

And most kids that get their hands on violent games likely got them through their parents, grandparents, or other adult relatives. Aside from checking ID, these violent games often cost at least $50. A child cannot raise this amount easily, and therefore, these games are mostly bought for them.

Also, notice how game-ratings labels ALWAYS have a large icon located on the lower left corner of the front of the box. But for movie cases, the ratings-labels tend to be located on the back of the box, at the bottom, and often the image's size is very small.

I agree, but I don't think he realizes gamers will defend videogames more aggressively then fans of many other industries, and since some of these people have large and popular websites, their view will probably be further spread then Thompson's views. I mean, look at the reaction his "modest proposal" got.

Video games dont make people violent...it's people like Jack Thompson that make people violent.

I dont think there is anything wrong with someone trying to prevent violent games from getting into the hands of young-folk, but the way Jack Thompson is going about it is really not the best way. Attacking the industry is not going to solve anything. He should be focusing his efforts on educating parents on the dangerous of letting your stupid-ass kid think it is alright to go about hitting people with golf clubs.

Thompson seriously needs a reality check... Maybe he should do a little more research on the subject, seeing as the "Grand Theft Auto Generation" is actually the least violent in the last century. If video games are supposed to make people violent, then how come kids these days are less violent than ever?
