See, our highways are all retardedly out of shape and our other roads all curve around like wut to somehow "miss" trees. This is a story I posted someplace else a few months back.

I had the most retarded person in front of me on the way home from work. The last road leading to my house is one lane both ways (split by a double yellow line). Someone turns in front of me down the street. I estimate that they won't be too retarded since I had just seen them go my speed (55) in the 45 zone we had to turn into the street from. Sadly, I immediately find out how wrong I am when I notice her license plates are from out-of-state.

She ends up stopping outside the first place you have the option of turning into; a church parking lot. 'Maybe she's lost?' I assume. I figured she'd turn into the parking lot as it is lit up so she can have a better look at a map. No. She stops in the middle of the road and does nothing of the sort. In fact, she just sits there in the middle of the road for about five seconds. Then she moves forward again right as I figure she's retarded and make the move to pass her. Forward is into a DO NOT ENTER / WRONG WAY street. You have to follow the lines as they ease right. So she starts going down that road and I see a chance to floor it ahead of her while she has no idea what she is doing. But no. Not enough time. She turns her car right while in the oncoming traffic lane and stays ahead of me.

She is, of course, doing 5-10 MPH this entire time. Normally, I hit this particular road at 50-60 since nobody ever drives on it and because it's 9:30 at night. People have this notion that this road in particular is dangerous and that driving slow is the safe thing to do. But I leave that aside since she is from out-of-state.

After a small ways down the road (would have been 2 seconds on my speed. Took us 30.), she stops again. For no reason. She just stops the car. Well, there is a shopping center I figure she might turn into, but she's way before the turn. After a few moments which seemed like hours, she just moves on. Again, without an explanation. We continue down this road until she pulls into a turn lane into a small memorial-type thing that is on the right side of the road. Another chance to pass her as she is letting me at this point. BUT NO. AFTER she pulls into the turn lane, she doesn't slow down and that turn lane ends, so she needs to get back on the ROAD. The same road that I am currently accelerating as fast as I can so as to get around her. Instead of letting me, she cuts into the oncoming traffic lane AGAIN to block my access.

I'm quite pissed at these girls now (yes, I identified them while they were under the street light at the turn lane), but it is the guy behind me (tailgating. It's what you do to slow people, duh) who is honking. So there's another "SHARP" turn that everybody slows down to take (which I hate since it is not necessary), and of course she stops her car again. This time, there is no logical means for this. She just stops for no reason. Another 100 feet away is another turn lane into a neighborhood. She pulls into this one and FINALLY honks to let me and the guy behind me pass. I floor it and hit 70 even though I only need to go another 100 yards or so before I turn onto my street.

If she honked to get us to pull over and help her find her way, I still would have felt no remorse for her. Even if you're new to an area, drive the speed limit. Not 5.

Israel really is much much worse. My mom, who is a nurse and therefore feels obligated to stop and help at traffic accidents that don't yet have ambulances, found herself at EIGHT DIFFERENT accidents in 3 days in Israel. And not in the same place, either, but in radically different areas.

The best things about Israeli drivers:

1) They drive with their knees and pay no attention to the street. Why, you ask? Because the right hand is holding a cellphone that they're yammering away at and the left hand is holding a cigarette that they are chain-smoking.

2) They will pull aside for an ambulance to pass--and then IMMEDIATELY FLOOR IT and follow in its wake to get where they're going faster. I believe this is illegal in the US.

Also, it's illegal to make a right turn against a red light in Israel.

Oh man Squeek, thank you, that happenes to me all the time. The thing about VA backroads (and even some mainroads) is that you can usually take the turns at about 20-30+ MPH than the recommended posted speed--unless you don't know the turns (or if you're in an SUV or something). It bugs me when I get behind a civic (who is going like -5 MPH under in the first place) that feels they have to slow down to like 25 for these slight curves.

If I were you in that situation I would've turned up the Initial D soundtrack really loudly and just passed her illegally as soon as possible. Maybe winked when I went past if they were girls--man that was intense.

But I know how it goes with the recommended turn speeds. I usually double them. "25 MPH turn"? More like 50.
