I networked my entire house through the walls, through the attics, you see no network cables laying on the floor, yet I've run cables to 3 rooms upstairs, 1 downstairs, and 1 in the basement, all from my room.

It's possible, it just requires effort.

Well im not really trying to do some Bob Villa Home improvement type shit. The computer room has a drop ceiling, and a hole in the wall from something else before it, so thats easy enough to get passed, the hard part would be that I have no attic, and if you could see the way my walls are shaped and positioned, you would see its a much harder task than average. The only way plausable to "get me wired" would be an around-the-house connection.

*UPDATE*
I rearranged my room so that my computer was on the same side of the room as the door. Placed the computer ontop of the computer desk with the pci card facing the door. As of now, with the door open, I get about a 20-25% signal boost. From 35-45 to 68-(haven't had it like this long enough for a low-max calculation). Hopefully this will help out. I feel better knowing im in the 65+ range. I might get 2 10 foot ethernet cords and move the router to somewhere in the living room, on the other side of the wall seperating the comp. from liv. room. Then I would only have interferrance from 2 corners, instead of 6 walls.

This may seem a little simplistic, but most Wireless cards, you can set to opimize for distance, It slows it down some, but your loss is much less, so you can keep a steady signal.

I don't know, you may have already done this, but I was just making sure it wasn't overlooked.

Yes, I went into the Netgear configuration thing and checked on that, I can't tell what this jable is about though.

In the advanced settings it has these ticked.
Power Saving - OFF (other options- normal or maximum)
2.4ghz Preamble - AUTO (other options- Long or Short)
Transmit Power - 100% (other options- 50% or 25% or 12.5% or Lowest)

In the Wireless Mode section-
54mb 802.11g (2.4 ghz)
11mb 802.11g (2.4 ghz)
Both are ticked

Fragmentation Threshold - 2432(highest it will go) (other options- 256-2432)
RTS/CTS Threshold - 2432(highest it will go) (other options- 256-2432)

I don't know what any of this means, or if any of this should be changed.

Your house is wired one way or another. Find out where (and how) the cables are wired for other things in the house and run your cable along those.

If that fails, MAKE a new wire setup. I know for my house, we obviously didn't want these gaudy wires traveling up stairs or out windows. We have the modem and router in a back room, but taking it through the ceiling of that room takes it to my parents' room, which is conveniently right next to mine at the moment. Make a small hole between the walls at the bottom corner and you have a connection.

Try to think of a wired connection that you (or you and your dad) can setup on some long weekend with nothing better to do.

ok, the only thing that I can think of would be running it through the room next to the computer room on the opposite side of the living room. This is basically a storage room seeing as we don't have an attic. Take it up those stairs in to the upper portion of that room. This room connects to the upstairs bathroom which is about two rooms over from my own at the end of the hallway. the only thing possible from that point would be a through the ceiling connection. Jump from light fixture to light fixture in each room. Bring down the inside of my own wall, make a small hole at the bottom and have it come out there. The connect. BING BAM BOOM, my room is wired. Now this is completely plausible, but completely time consuming. And the fact that me and the step dad haven't done anything father son related since he moved in, about 8 years ago, im assuming that this isn't going to happen. Oh yea, and he's lazy. Thats another reason why none of this will happen.

This is the same guy that I told I would pay half of the internet bill as it stands now, PLUS the upgrade fee to 6mb/s, and he still said no, because he didn't want to pay for it. ... . Just sit and think about that one.

Btw Bandit, were not running 4mbs. I don't know why, but we aren't. Im sure we are still stuck on the 700kb/s. I say this because I have never downloaded anything in my life at 4mb/s or even close to that. When I called they said all people will be upgraded to the 6mb/s by the end of the summer, but im pretty sure we will get skipped out on that also.

I've seen shit-fast DL speeds on a 100MB connection...like, a whole lot of Megs a second. I myself have reached about 9.5 on a system like that. I might be able to do more, who knows.

So really.. on a 4mb connection, you will never reach 4 actual 4mb/s that is promotes. What a shitty deal.
Anyone know the cause of thise?

Trey... it's called a 4 mb/s system, but (and this is just an educated guess), it limits the max pull for any one activity. If you were to DL at 4 mb/s, you couldn't do ANYTHING else on the internet while that is going on. So it caps things like d/l at ~10% of max.

It may also have something to do with bottlenecking. I can't think of exactly how to explain it, but through the system, it gets bottlenecked so that you can only do ~10% of the max.

But remember, you have DLing, ULing, web browsing, etc etc etc. Lots of stuff at the same time. I wouldn't mind seeing it kicked up to about 20-30%, but... thats just me.

For the record: Max dl I've gotten at home (comcast cable) is in the mid 400 range. Same for max ul. At school, I've ULed 980 kb/s, but just can't seem to break the 1 meg mark.... DLed in the upper 700 range.
