It's not like these apes are coming up with language or anything; they're just learning it from us. All those things described are still innately human, but are able to be taught to other species.

And dude, if you give anything a house with vending machines and crazy computer stuff, I think it'd do pretty well. Maybe if I get really hairy and act stupid I can get in this house and live the good life with my ape family.

That was perhaps the dumbest thing I've ever read. But I could be wrong. I'll research these apes a little more, and post again if I'm wrong. But since when are language and music innate to us? All sorts of animals communicate. Or are they saying they're going to teach these apes to talk? And as far as music goes, I hear music every morning when I wake up and hear the birds singin'. If they truly are like humans, then this is what will happen: They will get get extremely lazy and fat. They'll learn through trial and error what buttons will benefit them the most, and they'll probably abuse it. Unless of course we regulate them, and just attempt to make them as human as possible (or make them as ideal humans I should say.) And then that's just dumb, in my mind. What's the point?

Bonobos are quite intelligent and often walk upright, as the article says. They're our second-closest genetic relative, too. Oh, and their entire lives revolve around having sex.

Apes (namely Coco the gorilla and a few chimpanzees) have been known to be extremely human-like without just abusing trial and error. Those who know sign language have combined subjects and verbs to convey a meaning that they haven't seen before, i.e. the humans never put those words together in front of them before.

Apes are extremely smart, but I don't think this study will get as far as the article suggests.

How did they know that the ape's knew multiplication tables? I can gurantee that's some misleading information...but let's get proved wrong. And just because I think something is dumb doesn't mean it's still not an opinion, just like the people who say "OMG THIS IS SOOO COOOOLZ!!"...but i don't see ya telling those people not to post. The reason I think it's dumb because I feel our resources could be spent on better things (not the topic...sry if that was confusing.
