Yeah, you should try running in safe mode. And yes Norton sucks really bad. I'd say resort to reformatting. If not, bang on your computer screen until winamp opens up.

ad0gg, I actually thank you for posting that, because I needed a little computer humour.

+100 cool points.

And I think I'll give safe mode a try later on, see if I can get anything accomplished. My other though was to save up 60-65 bucks and get another hard drive, then when I want something, I can just transfer it from old to new hard drive, that way I know what is safe to keep.

Wow, you are all making this all far too complicated. He does not want more clutter on his computer. Chances are his registry is messed. Either way, this is all you need to do:

1.Move all of your personal documents, music, and stepmania files to a folder.
2.Take a screenshot of your computer so you can get it back to how you like it. Make a list of programs you have that you want to reinstall. Put this in your folder.
3.Take your computer to any half assed computer technician.

They will take that folder, (don't worry about there being viruses in there, viruses don't work like that), hook up your hard drive to theirs, burn your folder to DVD, and wipe your computer.

4.Install Windows XP again.
5.Get McCafee.
6.Reinstall all your aim/msn/stepmania/ares/mIRC/firefox again.
7.Stop downloading porn.


I did all this 1 week ago, because my computer was messed. It cost me zero dollars, and 5 hours of my day.

Welll I woke up yesterday morning and reformatted my computer, only to find that after wiping everything, the adware is STILL on the computer, and is now causing even fewer programs to work. So I'm wondering, if I get a new hard drive, will the problem be cleared up? Or has it become a problem that has gone further than just the hard drive?
