          Why would someone want to build something just to launch a cow 3/4 of a mile in the air?

          Well, if they are history goons, they get off on that sort of thing. That is what European Armies would do...they would launch the corpses of dead, diseased, rotting cows into the inside of castles.

                Realistic physics engine testing. They wanted to make sure the cow models worked fine before they tried out the human models.
