Nobuo Uematsu - Someday The Dream Will End

Very very obvious pick honestly, FFX is one of my favourite RPGs and video games of all time and I still remember the excitement I had when I was playing it five to six years ago. This track pretty much sums up the entire game and my experience from the game as a whole. Majestic, memorable but at the same time sombre. This isn't my favourite track from the FFX OST, but it's the most memorable one.

Other tracks are mainly more emotional more than anything else - I'll just link three tracks that I've felt a lot of emotion to for a very long time - maybe a year or more.

Tenmon - Yuki no Eki

5 Centimeters Per Second is my all-time favourite anime and movie, and I think the 5cm/s OST is the best anime soundtrack out there. This track has always stood out to me as a very very heart-tugging piece, right from the intro. It's like music at the end of a long period of depression, a light at the end of the tunnel, a warm welcome from your family after a long separation. That's what the track really screams out to me, it's an extremely heartwarming track from the get-go and it dissolves to form this atmosphere of subtle bliss.

William Basinski - The Garden of Brokenness

This one is a little hard to talk about - especially since it's so minimal. I've always pictured this track as an unchanging small patch of land with a undetailed house without a door and olive flooring on this patch of land. There's no way of getting out of that patch of land, neither is there a way to get in. For me, while the land is completely barren, is complete serenity to me. The relaxation and absolute silence is nothing short of beautiful.

The track becomes claustrophobic eventually, while the scenery is still the same as always, it gives off these vibes that make me feel uncomfortable - almost to the point of anxiety. Trying to get out of the scenery makes it worse, because there isn't one. I close my eyes and I try to imagine that it isn't happening, but I occasionally wake up and see that I'm still in the same area.

KASHIWA Daisuke - The Unexclusive Virus
Pretty much the same as The Garden of Brokenness, in a sense that it's hard to describe because it's so minimal. I've described it as "ideal music for a couple sitting at the edge of a rooftop watching the sun set and watching the world continue to drone with its work, watching blue-collared workers from a far distance doing what they're supposed to do", but it feels so much more than that. Its ambiguity is probably what makes this track so special to me - it's a very flexible track. I can listen to it in the morning and imagine a scenery where I'm next to someone that I deeply care about soundly asleep, and I'm just there looking at him or her smiling, sitting down next to him/her with a subtle smile, happy that he/she's there next to you.

I could go on and on about how the track is so emotional and beautiful, but it'd probably take a very long time for me to talk about the track. I guess the main thematic would be either very bleak albeit painless depression, or simply a subtle moment of happiness. Anyway, this is one of my favourite tracks. Although I don't listen to this anywhere as much as many other tracks, it's definitely a track that I've treasured for a very long time.

The Katamari Damacy Themesong

Not trying to be a basic bitch here but the mix of a jazzy midi brass section and the childlike Play-DoH "La, la la la la la, la la, la la la LA LA LA" takes me back to lying in bed with my first girlfriend and just imagining sitting there smiling next to him/her with a subtle smile that just makes me happy that he/she is there next to me while we would grab piles of sand with our Tonka Trucks and playfully wisk them into each other's faces.

Let the Bodies Hit The Floor - Drowning Pool

Takes me back to the summer of '03 where I was fragging the shit out of all the neighborhood kids with my waterballoons and my fucking sick garden hose nozzle. God what a lighter time where everything was young and free, let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see. Those noobs couldn't fucking handle my elite noscope watersports game sense.

Step Into My Office Baby - Belle and Sebastian

Wow, just wow. I feel like I'm 8 years old again and banging my first secretary, Margaret, before closing a deal with that douchebag Cameron down the street to borrow his copy of GoldenEye. Always be closing, my motto. After I traded a holographic blastoise for a copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day I felt a need to do a staffing upgrade, but I will always remember Margaret. (love you for life, girl)

flashblub was pretty much the artist that introduced me to harder sounding music when i started playing ffr and shitmania back in the day, if i didn't hear these idk if i would've ever discovered breakcore which makes up like 99% of my music library. windowlicker and vordhosbn still give me aphex twin boners to this day.

and then there's the obvious picks like SAW I & II which just have a very nostalgic feel to them already
