I would say not a bad idea considering all the thinking that a trainer has to do to get rid of old moves; another idea just hunched... I was thinking the creator of all generations of pokemon put a game together that takes in all regions of pokemon with a higher leveling system summing up to achieving more than 32 kinds of gym badges plus even throw in all pokemon contests and events offered from all episodes of pokemon to offer.

Yeah, but then there'd be no incentive to trade with other versions of the game to fill the National Pokedex.

Unova was a step in the right direction in that none of the new monsters (which, all told, are more than any previous generation, Red and Blue included) have anything to do with the previous 493. True, Hoenn was the first generation to cut off such "backwards compatibility" as well as introduced the EV, IV and nature systems as we know them today, but Unova was a nod to the fact that Pokemon is a worldwide thing. Indeed, The Pokemon Company found itself crowning its first American video game world champion in Hawaii last summer when Ray Rizzo took down Yasuki Tochigi.

Whereas the four regions explored in the handheld games so far were inspired by the various regions of Japan, this land seems to take its cue from the Occident (though downtown Tokyo is right up there in terms of crowded cities), and "Wargle" (proper English name Braviary) is only one of the new crop that seems inspired by Japanese stereotypes of Americans to a level not seen since the original Lieutenant Surge.

Furthermore, many of the conventions seen in the original, such as ten-character species names, twelve-character move names and four move slots were contrived by the limitations of the Game Boy screen, but as technology improved these limitations were kept as a matter of tradition. And speaking of tradition, one of the minds that has been deeply involved in the development of all five generations is invoked by name as an NPC Trainer that you can actually battle: "Game Freak Morimoto."

The lesson to be learned here is that if it isn't broken, it doesn't need to be fixed. (And if it were changed significantly, it would have to be done in the framework of an entirely different offshoot series to have any hope of selling well. See Ranger and Mystery Dungeon.)

I like the battle/training/game system as we have it. EVs, IVs, natures, type match ups and team building also make the game interesting and fun for those who really understand the details. You have to realize how fun and complex the game can be before saying it's in need of major change.

2nd, you need to realize the EXTREME nostalgic value for everyone. If you remember your first time playing, at the beginning of this entire franchise, you know that nothing can replace that feeling.

                    Re: Pokemon Game Ideas

If the Pokemon series were to do this, you'd have to release as a new kind of game.

Digimon World vs. Digimon Rumble Arena (or whatever it was, I forget).

Keep the original style, present a new style, and see how the game fairs.

Also, rare candies were horrible. I only used them to make pokemon evolve to add to the pokedex. I always trained with EV enhancing items like Macho Brace, Power Lens, etc. Nature and characteristics are important too. The move idea where you just select four from the ones you know I like. Most people reteach with heart scales you have to get which is always a hassle.

Oh man, igotrhythm just posted what I was trying to say. Yea, it'd have to be a new series. Changing the original game would destroy it completely. Even if it was for the better, the public doesn't like change. Facebook changes one thing and half the users get angry. Make it an option, new series, and it'll get popular on its own if it's worth it.

                    Uh, I think that's it.

                      Re: Pokemon Game Ideas

Nintendo and Gamefreak experimented a new style with Pokemon Ranger, but when people saw it was different, it got raped in the ass with sales figs (3mil to 7mil). So in other words, if they eff with Pokemon, consumers won't buy.

Pokemon's fine as it is, but the Pokemon themselves are getting more and more screwed up with each arriving generation. Johto/Kanto was epic, Hoenn was good, Sinnoh was a little shit, and Unova? Sweet Jesus.

Anyway, I'd like to see a battle system more action oriented, like the Action Time Battle system in FFXIII!

Okay, seriously. Thankfully, Nintendo doesn't need to be told like YT does - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The system hasn't changed that much over the years, and in my humble opinion that's a good thing. Call me conservative but that's the way I think.

Actually, I had this concept several years back.

Basically, my approach was to turn it into a fighting game, rather than a turn-based strategy. Of course, this will make it extremely difficult to balance the game, but it was an idea. This way, you can potentially pull off the moves you see in the show, using both your moves and the environment around you. With so many Pokemon, it'll basically turn into Mugen or something, but better.

Actually, someone on the Smogon forums has done this with a game called Battle CAPacity, featuring Pokemon created wholly by members of the community and tailored to be a top-level threat in simulated battles.

As they pertain to this game, however, it's a side-scroller beat-em-up as most others, with a unique super meter mechanic that, while I've never seen in action myself, feels kind of like the doubling cube in backgammon. Link: http://ivnbvn.com/batcap/
