Well they would, hopefully, notified either the thread or PM the host and something can be arranged if it turns out they can no longer continue the game.

It was Vigilantes, BulletProof (everything that wasn't a power role was one; kind of silly but vigilantes could make safe shots on people so long as no one shot them twice lol), 1 investigator (or whatever was the one that can watch someone and see if they visit people), and a bunch of power mafia roles.

I disagree. Sometimes you wanna play super heavy under the radar as a gimmick. Forcing people to post can be play limiting.

If it is implemented, it should start at one maybe two, and be adjusted as we go along. But simply put five is too many to start at least.

If you think forcing posts will make it more comfortable for some players, that's silly. They're not posting at all because they're uncomfortable, add in the threat of being mod killed ect, and then someone is undoubtedly going to use the "you're just trying to meet post quota" against people, it can become something really nasty.

Just my two cents though. I'm for making it at least one to start, but I am hard against making it more than three per day / night.

I actually hate post requirements. Silence is a valid tactic.

You're also communicating when you choose not to say anything.

You know what's a better way to make sure people are active? Have the host send a PM to the player asking to reply to that message within the next X hours with something they've done recently or plan to do soon.

Having the player share thoughts with the host is a good way to track activity because the host will get to hear the player's thought process - you should be able to tell as a host who is BSing and who isn't. It's probably the best way to determine if people are actually staying up to date and actually playing.

Making a rule that a player should reply to all host PMs and questions is less obstructive to the game experience than a post requirement. All players can trust that the host will remove players who are not dedicating time to the game so issues re: inactivity can be nullified in their entirety.

I did this in every game I hosted just to stay in the loop of all the backchanneling but it also helped me identify who was invested and who wasn't.

                Oh, I like that.

But fictiooooooooooooooooon, don't tell me you actually don't mind if a player goes about being silent for the entire game! You know that's not fun, because it isn't!

Plus, who's to say if we do that the person in question will post at all? They could just keep saying to the host that they're paying attention via what has happened (I guess) and not have to say anything.

That's cancer play and you know it!

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase

*shrug* the way I see it is that if a player is choosing not to post on purpose he's doing so at his own risk. As long as it isn't silence due to inactivity it's 10000% ok with me. Players could kill him for being silent if they wanted to. That's part of the game.

What I think we struggle with isn't silent players. We struggle with identifying whether or not people are even active. When we have to ask questions about people's activity in the game we choose to jump out of the roleplaying, bringing in foreign elements into the game. It sucks.

If the host can guarantee that everyone in the game is active then this doesn't have to happen anymore. Activity isn't defined by your posts/phase. It's defined by whether or not you're thinking about the game.

Re: Minimum amount of posting per Day Phase

I actually don't think a player who remains silent for 4+ phases will actually live long enough to win the game. But I can give you this very common case:

More often than not, we use inactivity to filter out greens from reds using context clues to determine whether the inactivity is more red then green and viceversa. This also ruins the game. A required posts/day doesn't solve for this because I should be allowed to remain silent if I choose to albeit at risk of whatever consequences the roster might deem applicable in response to my behavior.

                      That's all TWG is

I just think it's cheap is all. Makes for a boring game if everyone started doing it.

Oh well, to each their own.

To solve this we have to not think about inactivity by trusting that the host is going to take care of it (and the host should keep an eye out and be in constant communication with the players).

By doing this we can stop asking whether or not this guy is inactive and instead ask 'why is he not speaking up?'

I wish we could be like that. It's rare, but we do ask that questions sometimes, but usually if they've shown they posted a bit beforehand.

I think asking that question when they haven't said anything and purposely make it look like they have not even checked the thread is silly, because when you ask that, what's stopping them from making a BS excuse?

"Oh, I was busy, you know?"

And it's totally valid because they haven't done anything in the game.

                                Bleh, bleeeeeeh, bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
