Some, if not all of these are creative commons artists, they definitely can press charges for the improper usage of their music; selling the SM discs like this is most definitely illegal as the music is on public domain without any monetary value.
This is gonna be pretty interesting in the long run.
they used the permissions stepmania.com had, which is basically just the stepmixes. stepmanier.com could get sued by da artists and lose quite easily at this point.
I'm fairly sure that sm got permission to distribute the music, just like we did with support tokens (maybe comparable).
The thing is, it's not like they're buying the discs from sm.com and then reselling them. There's a different number of songs on there, on the one ddrgame et al. are selling.
But I don't really know the legalities here, just speculation on my part.
I saw a flyer on a bulletin board at school asking for high-functioning aspergers/autism people to participate in some kind of experiment, and all I could think was, that sounds like a great place to meet girls.
It's literally just the Stepmix CD being sold for a very large cost, hahaha
I don't really care 8D, it's just kind of funny

Hey thanks for letting me know. I think it's actually legit though, since I vaguely remember allowing someone to use some of my songs in some stepmania competition. I did some googling and found this http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/StepMix_2_Contest
"
You must have permission (either written or in email) from the music copyright owner (usually the musician) to use their music for StepMix and present to them the following statement:
"I am requesting permission to use your song __________ in my entry to the StepMix Song Contest. I would like to create game dance steps for your song, allow it to be posted on the StepMania web site (http://www.stepmania.com), and allow it to be used on the non-profit StepMania Complete CD-ROM (http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/StepMania_Complete_CD-ROM) which raises prize money for the StepMix contest. Full details are available at http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/StepMix_2_Contest."
I think I agreed to that
I like how the list repeats people and song names over and over

Except that it has a different number of songs on the disc and since it's a CD they could just be fabricating copies instead of buying and reselling actual copies from sm.com.
I guess it's something that someone at sm.com really has to look into.
That and that agreement is for distribution under "not-for-profit" and this company is clearly profiting from selling it, hence that agreement doesn't apply.
