I got an awesome midi keyboard, so I am all good. I might try to find a PC download of this just for fun.... I have seen this before though, nothing new to me.

To be honest once I get good enough at playing my piano, drums, viola, and guitar I really want to learn to play the marimba, it seems like so much fun.

Reading sheet isn't as easy to read and does not supply a solid tempo for the player.

And if someone is looking for fun rather than to develop a career as a concert pianist, I don't see why playing this sort of thing would be bad.

It's funny how this thread is being treated as a new discovery. Keyboardmania is oooold stuff.

I failed it when playing at the arcade, despite playing the piano for almost my whole life. I certainly don't agree that playing the piano proficiently will necessarily give you much of an advantage, since you don't normally read musical scores as bars that fall down a screen.

P.S. I think you can find the Keyboardmania games (JPN PS2 I think) as well as the official Keyboardmania controller on play-asia.

Correct, which is actually better, because you set your own tempo until you can play it correctly. Also, reading sheet music is so much more easier than reading 32+ notes coming down a screen within a matter of a few seconds. I'm just saying, it's much more fun to actually play the instrument, if it goes so far as to actually simulate it.

Sorry, but I can read graphical images a lot easier than sheet. Don't know what kind of bizarro world you come from where it is easier to read a coded language than look at a graphical picture.

I mean, if the game had like 7 keys like IIDX, I would agree because it simulates it, but not to the degree of realism. Take a look at guitar hero. Obviously you're not playing a real guitar, but it's fun because you don't actually have to practice for years to "play" music, and you can just pick up and play.

Yeah, well, like I said, this thing doesn't even have all the keys that a piano does anyway.
