Can someone check the rules on gambling?

I know you cannot go from Money --> Gamble --> Credits --> Payout

But can you Go from Money --> Gamble --> Credits with no way of turning the credits back into money?

    Cheers,

        Re: Money-Making Ideas for FFR.

no. there are recent laws passed in the united states in regards to online gambling and cashing money out. there are also laws as far as the age of gamblers... the us is 21+, other countries vary.

i don't support any form of gambling beyond the credits page that we have set up. don't feel like getting into all the reasons (it's more than just the laws).... but we'll say the laws are enough reason as is.

we used to have a donation button back on the 1st layout of FFR. and it wasn't used much. would be up to synth in terms of a new one... but it seems that gift subbies are being used in place of a larger sized donation. those users who otherwise would have donated more have instead bought other users subscriptions. it has the same result. not saying that we couldn't still have a donate button though. it doesn't cost anything.

        special genre. hmm. *giggles*.

basically, seems like most of the ideas are stuff we've already shown you guys or have suggested. but, suffice it to say, it's stuff we're looking into doing.

I looked around a bit.. I can't find anything that "technically" says you can, nor can I find anything saying you can. FFR needs a lawyer. Rofl.

Anyway, is it really that good of an idea? What will happen to those who can't buy the credits? What will happen to the credits for items shop? It'd all go downhill, and then less things would be bought in the end..

And.. Being able to buy credits.. Wasn't the whole point of gambling to get rid of credits? If they were available to buy, that wouldn't be eliminating, that'd be growing.

I like where Synth is going with that, but more like.

            Money --> Gamble --> Merchandise

Payout would be in-game options, unlocks, merchandise, but no cash-back, and I couldn't find anything that says that's illegal in anyway, it would be a Donation, which would make it.

            Donation --> Gamble --> Merchandise
            or in some peoples luck
Donation --> Gamble --> Epic Failure

But in any case, it would be like you know how when you subscriber you get an email forever? It would be like, you subscriber for 3 months, get special points to be gambled against other players who have them, obtain enough points to trade in for certain site access/prizes.

And for the EDIT: Tass, don't make fun of me -.- I took time out of my life to throw my ideas, and your giggling makes me nervous, I am supporting you whoring yourself out, so meh. <3?

iluswirl: it would add credits, yes... but then we'd respond by adding more purchased at higher credit values and higher secret songs. but then you get back to some issues of quasi-buying songs for money. since very few users have 500k+ credits to access a potential secret song. more since gambling, but still not that many.

And on top of that, there would probably be more features to take away our precious credits... right tass T_T

I guess that makes sense.. But as far as I know, it's been decided that we aren't going to make credits available to buy. So I guess that case's closed.

Which doesn't make me sad, because now I can attempt to build up a substantial amount of credits so that I can buy another subbie.

PLUS, if credits were able to be purchased, emerald would be out of business.

                      Exactly my point.

And that would stink. I think it would possibly end in a not-profit for FFR because then the sellers could just buy the credits they need.. Which means no more competition.. Which ends up as not being as much profit.

well you can't say that, because people would be paying to buy the purchased songs, and i'd imagine they could get in the 100k's to mil's even in the future, and to pay for it, theres not much option, so on and so forth, people will still buy people subs for their credits, but they may charge more, so if you get it legit, or gambling, then your still getting it free, it would be a win-win situation IMO.

EDIT: to make it more clear, there is only a few people actually buying that many subscriptions for credits, I think it would be subbybuyers < people buyin credits for profit.

                          Re: Money-Making Ideas for FFR.

Here's an idea about support tokens!

Granted, the initial reception of the first support token was a bit mixed, with many users upset about it because it cannot be obtained for free, how about this?

Make a headline on the front page and a thread about it so users know it will work as follows. Each support token will initially be obtainable only by buying the accompanying album as a bonus. However, after both a set amount of time has expired and at least a certain amount of CDs/music downloads/etc have been purchased, it then becomes a regular token, obtainable in some riddle way as the tokens of old.

So to support FFR and the artists, users would buy the albums. As a reward, they would gain these support tokens as well. Also, this should satisfy those who complain about all the tokens not being gettable without spending money. And in the event not many sales have been made for a particular artist's work, the users won't have anything to complain about because they could be supporting the site and the artist by buying the CD/music/etc and gain the token immediately. If they don't want to do that they can wait around until enough other people do and the set time has elapsed.

Maybe good values for those would be the minimum time before it could go "public" would be half a year and the minimum number of CDs/music downloads/etc that have to be sold before it can go "public" would be 100. Those of course could be adjusted if those aren't very good values/etc...

Then everybody should be happy and those who wish to support FFR and the artists can do so and those who don't do so won't have anything to complain about because it will be free after a set time and if enough people buy the music.

The only thing I have to say though is there need to be multiple purchasing avenues as well. What I mean is, don't limit this to cell phone things and Paypal, etc... Tie it in to however many methods you can for buying it. So if someone wants to buy it on, say, iTunes or something similar, they can, and if they want to buy an actual music CD, they can, and regardless of which way it is purchased, they are able to get the support token.

Also, either one of two things could be done so people could keep track of it.

1: Include small descriptions with the tokens on the token page that are updated every week or so, which tell how much longer before it can go public and how many more purchases must take place before it can go public. It only goes public once both conditions are met.

2: Have a sticky thread which keeps track of all of this for all Support tokens. Update the first post there weekly or so including the same information.

I had a similar idea to Tyler's. I didn't even notice, but here's a way to get around gambling.

                            Donation Leaderboards
People who donate get their own leaderboard, and the users that become top donator at any time get a token. The leaderboards are reset once a month. Donations under $5 will not be included on the leaderboards, and the first week of the leaderboards will not give out tokens, so there’s time to get actual donations in.
