I'm going to go ahead and agree. There are tons of genres that could make great stepcharts, but the people with the skills to do so avoid them. I remember back in the day people said things like "you can't step rock because of unsteady BPM" then immediately turned around and stepped live piano performances.

But that said, the thing that makes pop music pop is the fact that it's popular. If it's popular music of this sort you're looking at, you're going to have a very hard time getting permission for it, and even if you do, it'd be better to put the few successes in misc or something.

Yeah I remember something like that rock music wasn't accurate enough to be stepped appropriately and required tons of BPM changes which would be an absolute pain in the ass to correctly sync the song without any flaws if you haven't been stepping for very long. Which is mainly one of the reasons why pop would make a good genre for those easy steppers.

-5 support. Firstoff, getting permissions will be a pain in the butt, since it's all asking major labels to give away their music for free, which isn't exactly in their plan. As for copyright permission,

The basic premise of the Berne Convention as it regards music says this:

1/ Countries can set the length of copyright to anything they want as long as it is NOT LESS THAN 50 YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF THE AUTHOR,

2/ The copyright law applies in the country that the work is being used in now, regardless of where it originated

3/ None of the countries are allowed to require formal registration of copyright to grant copyright protection

So, for our purposes, anything that was made by someone who died FROM JANUARY 1st 1958 AND ON IS COPYWRITTEN AND YOU MUST GET PERMISSION TO USE no matter who made it, where you live, where they lived, anything. If they died from 1958 on, automatically you need permission to use it.

So we'd need permission from MJ's record companies, Mowtown and Epic, both very major companies who probably wouldn't agree. You can e-mail them if you want.

secondly, most pop sucks.

thirdly, I am all for getting rid of all the WIDGET stuff in rock.

Yeah I pretty much knew getting permission was pointless Xander which is why we moved the topic discussion to adding the new Pop genre. Besides Michael Jackson's music theres bound to be other pop labels that will collaborate on allowing us to step their music.
