You're missing the point. The skill that it takes to score well on the really hard songs is above and beyond the skill that it takes to AAA the offbeat songs. If you're looking for the BEST players, a list that treats every song equally isn't going to do the trick. A list that weights the songs (so a good score on FOTBB means a hell of a lot more than a AAA on Trip to the Moon) or a list such as scottish's is a more accurate way of gauging a person's skill than a list that treats Caprice the same as Seattle's Finest

So maybe have songs with higher difficulty on the Chardish scale take more weight?

I agree, becuase it's dumb that you can go from 1 good to an AAA on Mario, and improve your average rank more than if you went from 1.2 million to 1.8 million on Revolutionary Etude. Now, who's better, 1.2 million on Revo and AAA Mario, or 1.8 million on Revo and black flag Mario? You could replace Revo with a lot of the hard songs, and Mario with a lot of the easy songs, and get the same conclusion.

Then how about calculating the average rank of hard songs (4.5 or above of difficulty scale)?
45 songs right now, and they all are not boring to play for most good people.

Most simple, objective, effective way for showing skill so far.
Maybe someone like Tass must calculate manually now though.

I understand what you mean, but I think this is something of a side effect of the ranking system. It looks like they do something like 1st, 1st, 1st, 4th, 5th instead of 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The more people tied for 1st place, the lower the rank of that second highest score. Assuming more people PC/AAA easier songs, which seems reasonable, the jump from 2nd place to 1st place will be larger on them. If they used the second numbering system for places, it would be different.

I think others have good points about hitting off-sync arrows (it is a skill, but shouldn't be necessary) and weighting the average rank by song difficulty. Others seem to have covered these pretty well so far, so I won't add much more. The one thing I will say is that omitting dead last zero scores is another option for calculating average rank, basing it only on what people played, not everything including songs they didn't even try. No play = no rank, at least in one interpretation. However, someone could come in, PC/AAA a simple song, and never play again, but have an average level rank of 1 in this case. So it wouldn't exactly be consistent.

Basic response to the original post: I think that average level rank is a better measure of skill, while overall rank is a better measure of who plays more. Overall rank is based purely on total points scored, so even if you're not a good player, you can get a good overall rank by playing a lot. To improve on average level rank, you have to get better scores on the songs, be more accurate, pass more difficult songs, etc.

I like the idea.

Sertman I you have to understand that the game has to rank poeple on effort not just skill. According to overall rank Tass is better then Bill_Clinton because Tass puts in the effort to master the more songs. I agree Bill_Clinton may have more skill but it overall rank is in place so ppl like tass get rewarded.

im comming for that top 110..... since i have came back ive taken my average level rank from 11,000 down to just under 1000, and im going to keep lowering it, i will be there soon........
