I have no internet

im on a friends right now.
My computer says it has little or no connection, and i can't repair it because it can't renew the ip adress among other things. what should i do? what can i do?

You can't "have" an Internet.

The Internet is the collective network of all computers in the world.

What you are currently lacking is an Internet connection.

Also, "Internet" is a proper noun. Maybe if more people remembered that, they wouldn't think they had one or two lying around the house.

Assuming that you have a router, you should be able to reset your IP addresses. If you've got a modem, no idea. >_<

I get this all the time. If someone can tell me how to fix it, I'd be grateful as well. I thought wireless was the problem, but it looks like that's not necessarily the case...

My god the majority of you posters in this are complete idiots.

One possible thing to do is to contact your ISP. If you're using a wireless connection, re-check all that stuff.

There are four steps in an Internet connection diagnostic.

1) Computer. Try other computers in the house if you have multiple computers hooked up to the Internet. Try another computer with your network cable. It might just be PC settings.

2) Router. Make sure it's plugged in and working. Reset if necessary.

3) Modem. Make sure it's plugged in and working. Reset if necessary.

4) ISP. Make sure nothing's wrong on their end. Call if necessary.
