And I need suggestions.
Okay, okay okay okay. There's these three guys. Basically, they're trying to run an experiment to see if literary terms happen in real life. You know, like Symbolism and Foreshadowing and crap. They're going to do this by taking a camera and filming everything they see for a full day. Then they go back, and study the videos and see if they spot anything. I think it's a great idea for movie and it would be easy to film, but I cant decide on something... Do I: A) Make the final results exactly what would happen if the experiment was pulled off for real (Literary terms dont happen in real life). B) Make the final results negatory but the movie itself has alot of it happen all behind their backs or something. C) They discover some things that could be symbolic, but it's all very vague and up to the viewer. This sounds like the best choice, but it would be really hard to pull off. D) They discover proof of literary terms and then something very ironic happens to all of them. Suggestions? Comments? Ideas? |

A combination of A and C. Where it's so vague that there probably isn't (the kind of thing where you look so much into something you become convinced it's there, regardless of whether or not it actually is), but they want to be right in their theory so much that many one or two of the guys just will not accept there's nothing there. And after some arguments, the other (that believes there is nothing there) burns the tapes or something to "end the argument once and for all". Kind of thing.
My 2 cents.

Sounds kinda interesting... Maybe a psychological thriller if you could pull it off?

I think literary stuff does happen in real life... well in my life at least. I often find that i can make a link between stuff that happened a while ago with stuff that happened recently. But maybe that is just me reading to much into stuff. Anyway, i think it would be really good to do a movie maybe where a group of 18/19/20 year olds decide to film a bit of their life (a week or something) to see if they can forsee the future through it. It could even start with a guy having an idea about it and posting it on an internet forum he goes to often.. Then have something happen so that they forget about the tape for a while. Maybe a few years. After that one of them finds it and discovers that everything that seems to be forshadowed in the video they took (like the way you see it in a thriller etc where you kind of know what is gonig to happen) actually took place !! Would be so freaky... but great idea!!
Well thats what i think...

I agree with Zajac and angel. Make it some kind of crazy psychological thriller where something happnes to one of them, and it was vaugely forshadowed in their mideo, and the other two frantically search for something the might happen to them in thier video.
Oh, you could also have someone appear in each of their videos, but like, hardly noticeable. [Edited crazy bad spelling errors]

The first bit of angel-d's post I liked, but I think that for it to be a decent film, the internet should probably stay out of it. :P
And you can SAY that there is foreshadowing in life, because alot of things happen by coincidence. Don't tell them that, though! Only the part about how foreshadowing occurs in life. Because half the truth could make you wealthy.

You should definitely have them read into it way too much. Like, one thing seems to be foreshadowed, so they think the whole thing indicates what will happen. By the end they're like, killing their best friend because "the video is foreshadowing that he will kill them." And they get so paranoid that they all go insane. Like, in their movie they see a kid playing with toy trains and they crash, and one of them has to go to a meeting at a train station. They don't go and get fired. Stuff like that. But at the end, you need some way to tie it all together so that the movie itself shows that they will all end up as failures, so may be it really WAS foreshadowing it all!!
I dunno how you would have the movie do that, though. =\

I loved that movie, and I would love the book if I knew it existed before the movie did. I'll have to read it. I like EB's idea, actually. It's also alot like that one French guy's movies--where there is no plot, but just a theme, and that is what the whole movie is about.

Maybe have the movie start at the funeral of the friend. He's way dead, and the other three guys (Maybe throw in a girl for good measure and sexual tension) go through his stuff. They find his video collection, and his edited films on the computer (Self edited, self shot). The friend was the one looking for all the foreshadowing and other literary elements, and he finds them. The friends look at the rough cuts of the tape, some thirty plus hours of footage before seeing his edited copy on the computer that prominently points out the foreshadowing that leads to the dead friends death.
They get a little nervous, but more so when they see more signs in the rough cut that point to themselves, in shop windows, trucks, barking dogs, falling pianos and the like. They don't die, but they're very afraid. You would need to effectivley transfer their fear to the screen, even though they don't die, make the audience feel like they are on the brink of death with the charachters. And yes, one of the charachters could murder another one because the series of foreshadowing incidents points to some kind of really bad climax, IE, the guy that gets murdered would have raped the girl, or something like that. And maybe at the end, just make that guy really mean, and evil, and only looking out for himself, abandoning his friends and the like. I dunno. Just my two cents. Mal

While I was aiming for something more light-hearted, I think I can fit some of that fear of death stuff into it. See, I'm starting think about making three people that go their own separate ways, and each one has a different journey. One has a "knight must slay the dragon and rescue the princess" adventure in trying to ask a girl out to a dance, another one, who is the most poetic and dedicated to this project, has a comical and humorous journey desparately searching for something. And your stuff would be perfect for the last guy. |

The guy who murders his friend and abandons the others should die the deaths of all of them. Like, all the deaths foreshadowed that would happen to the others would happen to him. It'd be like, he's all evil, then...justice'd!
It could be like Final Destination in the fear part. In the movie, the whole you're thinking "oh, he's gonna die now!" but it doesn't happen until you think it won't happen, and it ends up somehow incorporating everything you thought would happen. It could be like that, only the people don't die, but the evil guy at the end has all the bad stuff happen to him. Then it would all make sense and people would be like YAY and they'd have sex with the girl. Because every good movie ends with the girl screwing the guy(s) who saved her.

If you plan on making the movie thematic instead of plot-driven, be careful that is stays cohesive, okay?

Ideas in this thread are starting to lead into zones of Final Destination and Minority Report.
While they were decent movies, this idea could have the potential to blow every other movie out of the water. Omega, you need to copyright your ideas before people like Moogy steal them. ~Squeek
