Default ITT, we talk about recent game purchases

This way, we can talk about something we were really late getting into and people can't be like "OLD NEWS". I mean, I guess they can, but we're just talking about stuff we've bought most recently.

In my case, I picked up Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War GOTY. $30 for the original game + the expansion Winter Assault. It's seriously a wickedly good RTS, one of the best ones I've played in a long time. It actually requires a bit of strategy rather than whoever has the fastest zerg. Rushing is still a tactic, of course, but it's rather difficult to do and be successful (especially if you're going up against orks because all their buildings have guns on them, and I mean every damn one of them). Micromanagement is relatively easy compared to Warcraft 3 and Starcraft, although only because it's easier to select individual units to use their attacks than it is in Starcraft, because there is quite a bit that you have to do with each squad (namely, reinforcements + equipping bigger guns). A second expansion just came out, so I'll have to go look into that.

It's also in the Warhammer universe, so props to that.

Also, I finally got a copy of Disgaea 2. The local Wal-Mart is the only place to shop for games around here and it took them like a month to finally get some in stock. I'm enjoying it thoroughly.

Unfortunately, Gamecube has been totally stagnating while we wait for the Wii to be released. The last game I played was Baten Kaitos about a year ago, which was spectacular. It just reinforces my belief that Namco's RPG studio really knows what it's doing.

In handheld news, I got Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team (I still don't have a DS =x) and I am loving it. It's a spectacular game. I've always liked the Pokemon series but Ruby and Sapphire were just boring. Silver was the best one in my opinion, and even then, it was remarkably similar to Blue / Red. The whole "you're a trainer and you want to be the best!" thing kinda got old, especially with how easy it is to be the best.

So, cue Mystery Dungeon. This time, you're not a trainer. You're a pokemon! It's fun. I am playing as a Mudkip. I heard you like them.

I think the last game I bought was BF2, and that was like, over a year ago. *checks www.bf2s.com* Yup, "Enrollment Date 2005-06-11", so I've been playing over a year. Yeah, I'm really thinking of following in Laharl's footsteps and getting that Warhammer RTS. I played it at a friend's house once and was like =O!

I bought a passme device, flashcart, and a 1gb microSD for my DS Lite so I've just been rocking back to some handheld homebrew and emulators.

Dude, hell yes. A friend of mine bought it and I got to play it for awhile. Definately an awesome game.

Nah. Get in a car. Go to the underground.

I did that for 2 hours. I would of done it longer but my mate kicked me off.

Also, try running from one end to the other.

I'm going to go on a road trip to buy Dawn of War's expansion, Dark Crusade. The nearest video game store is freakin' 30 miles away.

Stuff I need to buy (in roughly this order): Ever17, Xenosaga III, Valkyrie Profile 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, Tales of the Abyss, and Final Fantasy XII.

FF12 is pretty nice so far. I'm glad it got leaked so I had a chance to play it before it came out - I'll definitely buy it now.

I bought a used copy of Devil May Cry at Gamestop because I never got around to playing when it came out.

They gave me Devil My Cry 3.

I already own the Special Edition.

It was a sad day.

Well the last game I bought was Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, but that's because I lost the CD-KEY and didn't feel like using a fake CD-KEY so my IP would get banned. I think it's one of the best suited games for university, whenever I feel like taking a break I play a little custom game, and there are so many it doesn't become tedious.

However, the lastest console game I've purchased was Disgaea 2, if anyone has played the first one they know this series is not a dissapointment. It's a sidescroller platform best I can describe it, and for one, the voices do not suck and since mouths don't seem to move there is no mouth moves while there are no voices thing.

Ichigo, I don't even know how you could desrbie Disgaea as a sidescroller or a platformer.

The genre you're looking for is "Strategy RPG".

I would buy a copy of the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for PS2, but apparently no stores have any new copies of them anymore. =(

Ha! I play SF3S on it all the time.

Anyways, I bought Rumble Roses and Max Payne 2 recently. Max Payne 2 just oozes bad-assness but I had to get used to the ****ty controls and what not. Its a chore just walking from one room to another. =\

Also, RR is not the greatest game of all time either. I mean, I knew the game is about watching hot pixelated women beat the hell out of each other, but the wretsling system is just a letdown. Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 this game is not. The system has the bare minimums of branching from submission to grapple attacks and the dialogue is rofl-worthy. Now don't get me wrong, some of the voice actresses do a spot on take of the character but the actress who plays the Black girl in the game, sounds like a jive-turkey talkin mama from the 70s.

Ooook....

Anyways, the game also kinda sucks because the story mode plays like a freaking STREET FIGHTER GAME. It would've been nice to have a menu where you can boosts stats and check out your progress between matches but as soon as you beat one girl...ZIP! The game boosts you off to another girl with no chance to come back. I found this out the hard way when I beat the girl before the final girl, Devil Rose. I put the controller down because I thought it would go to a menu or something to get a soda. I come back and I'm at the main screen of the game. Apparently like in SF, if you lose, you have 10 seconds to continue.

Oh boy.

To end this, I was kind of dissapointed by RR but I am suprised at how much more awesome Max Payne 2 is. Now time to go get Bully. =)

You might have to explain a bit about those. I don't think the majority of people here even know what those are.
