Kind of bummed out too. I was sick for two days, and did some drinking since I saw an old buddy of mine. Today, I decided to do an full upper body workout that ended with some pullups. I lost some strength, but not too much. Oh well. :( |

Re: Progress pics thread
Not much but a very huge deal for me. I was able to rep 225 5 times on the decline today. So far, that's one of my goals hit for this year.

Gotta start somewhere, right? Here's the sack of meat I'm working with. 6 foot, 140 pounds. No diet, no routine. Just looking to get some definition. I'll check back in in a couple months if we see some progress.
P.S. SCWolf is looking fine, goddayum. -o24

Re: Progress pics thread
Posting for historic purposes (5'11 - 155lbs) Is it possible to get jacked doing only body weight exercises? Not that I can't afford a gym membership or anything but just curious :) Last edited by Dynam0; 07-6-2016 at 08:40 PM.. |

Re: Progress pics thread
It's totally possible. The guys at Calisthenic Movement have some information on it and exercises you can do. You should check out their videos as a starting point.

Here's a random guy that I found on Google images that is a pretty realistic example of what you could expect from literally only doing bodyweight exercises (naturally of course)

Re: Progress pics thread
Dynam0, all that you need to understand is that getting jacked is a metric of basically 3 factors:
1. Progressive overload - subjecting and training the body to handle increased resistance over time. 2. Proper nutrition - eating the necessary macronutrients required to allow the body to build muscle. This means high protein intake (studies show at least 0.6 grams per lb body weight for optimal results) and more importantly, a caloric surplus. Increasing your mass means increasing your energy (yay for physics), and that excess energy has to come from food sources (since the body did not evolve to efficiently turn calories from fat into muscle). Alternatively, if you need to lose fat then you decrease caloric intake, but in your case you need to build muscle not lose fat. 3. Rest - exercise is merely the stimulus for growth. Actual growth happens while resting. Optimal recovery involves getting lots of sleep, but the exact amount depends on your individual genetics. So if you're wondering whether or not a program is capable of getting you jacked, you only really need to ask whether or not the program is capable of fulfilling the first condition. The other conditions are unrelated to training. In which case the answer is obviously yes, you can get jacked with a body weight program because it is possible to program progressive overload into your training. Most programs that involve training can meet this condition. Some can't though (e.g. running, which is ironically what most newbies gravitate towards when they start working out to look better). The only problem with bodyweight training programs is that it's more DIFFICULT to effectively incorporate progressions, generally because you have to get much more creative than simply adding more weight to the bar. However, it is still very much possible. You basically have to learn how to put the body into positions that put more tension on the muscle utilizing torque and levers. After mastering basic bodyweight movements for many repetitions (I would stay away from rep ranges higher than 15 for growth), I would look into progressions that gymnasts use. Static holds can be just as effective for growth as repetitions. Anyone that has ever watched high level gymnastics knows the competitors are often very muscular, and many of them only do bodyweight training. The progressions they use to get that big are available on the internet, and many of them are extremely difficult. As with weights, it'll take years to carve out a nice physique so don't expect it to come quickly.
