Using speed boost to play better
I know that using the 1.xx-2 speed boosts are supposed to help you play better by reducing the amount of arrows on the screen at a single time so there is less for you to read at once. I'm thinking of starting to use this now, but I'm not sure when is a good time. Do you think it is best to work your way through the speeds slowly or jump to the most ideal one? Is there a most ideal one? I've seen someone say 1.75 is the best, but I can't rely on one post.
And, who plays at a higher level without a speed boost? It looked like most top players use it.

1.75x has worked the best for me. With less arrows on the screen and easier to read than 2x

Re: Using speed boost to play better
I've always just increased it to what I can keep up with, which for me basicly meant increasing it slowly, but if you can already keep up with 2x, I'd use that one. There isn't really an ideal speed though, it's a personal thing.

Re: Using speed boost to play better
it depends on the person.
when speed mods were first released, i started at 1.25x. But after a while, it was too slow so i went to 1.5x. And after a while my best friend said try using 1.75x. So i did that but it took a few weeks for my reaction to adjust but now i use 1.75x and thats perfect for me. |

Re: Using speed boost to play better
Yeah when speed mods were first released I started on 1.5. Just recently I increased it to 1.75 and at first it was difficult to get used to, but it's definitely worth it. In the long run you'll notice it helps a lot. I would start on 1.5 and after a while bump it up to 1.75.

I started with 1.25,then changed to 1.50, i can keep up to 2.0, but i'm still using 1.5, sometimes 1.75.

i'm "higher level"... and i don't use speed mods.
speed mods are for wimps and wussies who can't read 1x.

Re: Using speed boost to play better
When you increase the speed mod in FFR, high BPM stepfiles don't go faster than low BPM stepfiles. Instead, the space between the arrows is reduced/increased to accommodate the speed of the song, so you won't necessarily have to worry about having different speed mods for different songs. At first, I switched to 1.25, because anything else was too fast for me, then I eventually switched to 1.5 when I was able to read it. Just go to the speed that gives you better scores, and when your scores stop improving, try another mod.
... That's just scary that Tass doesn't use mods o_o ....... If he switched he could destroy this game. Last edited by Flaming_Dingleberry; 08-29-2008 at 05:59 PM.. Reason: Holy Jesus |

Re: Using speed boost to play better
1x is for people who get nervous when the speed is over 300

Re: Using speed boost to play better
1x speed + screencut is good. If you want to do speed mods though. start with 1.25, see how you do, if you think you need it faster, go ahead. Speed mods just spread out the arrows to see them better. If you do 1x speed + screencut, it will play like it is on 1.50, but the arrows are scrunched together.

Re: Using speed boost to play better
2x is best for me. I need speed, if it's anything below 2x I'll hit an arrow too soon.

Re: Using speed boost to play better
I tried out 1.25x on Secret Zombie Room - no problem.
1.5x - no problem. 1.75x - Ehh... I lost around the end 2x - ..... 3x - This is totally not fair. I think I might stick with 1.5x unless I decide I wanna be like Tass.

Re: Using speed boost to play better
Well I guess reaction time also factors in. I have a relatively fast reaction time, so I can play on 2.0x quite handily. AAA'd Jelly Roll Blues, blackflag a for masters only on 2.0x.
I can FC Challenging (without mash) on 3.0x, but that's with not very good PA :P

Re: Using speed boost to play better
gar: as others said... it usually takes time to adjust to a faster speed mod. so as you move up, it'll be too fast. gotta give it a bit of time.
and, nobody plays on 3x. it's just too fast. but i used it to get all goods on excite bike in 1 try.

Re: Using speed boost to play better
Before speed mods I used screen cut and had a good majority of the screen cut.
After the speed mods came out I started with 1.50 and then moved up to 1.75 which I think is best. |
