$215 is ridiculous. If you read the comments on that Amazon page, some people have some other suggestions. Definitely keep an eye out for better deals though whenever you're buying equipment. At-home gyms get expensive fast.

Yeah it definitely does.

Only thing left, really, is getting a weight tree + some plates.

Any recs for brand / how many of which plate to get? I kinda like the weights with the grip-holes, but I don't know if there are any drawbacks to those.

I'd say get up to 315lbs in 45lb plates, 2 35lb plates, 2 25lb plates, 4 10lb plates, 2 5lb plates and 2 2.5lb plates.

I use free weights at home, and have a weight bench for lifting. I finished doing the "Body Beast" program and gained 20 lbs last year. It's a great program, especially if you have a high metabolism like I do and need to bulk up.

You do need to eat a lot though. There were some great recipes in the book the program came with. The supplements are a little overpriced and I found better, cheaper alternatives, but I definitely dig the neutral-flavored base Protein shake.

Diet consisted of Turkey Chili, Chicken, tons of vegetables and fruit. My favorite is salad w/ goat cheese (Yeah sounds gross but I actually totally dig it haha). Also, orange and lemon infused water is the bomb, you should check it out. I've tapered off the program somewhat due to stress at work and packing up for the move to a new place this weekend, but I'm hoping to get back into it right after we get settled down.

Glad to hear about your progress. Plans like that are nice for beginners, yet they kind of take advantage of beginners to be honest.

Most people would just be better off finding a caloric sweet spot for daily intake, using the basic macro nutrient percentages (50, 30, 20) and using myfitnesspal to just track all the numbers for them while they bathe in the gains. Counting macros is much more lenient for food choices, not necessarily strict diet rules laid down by a template program.

Just my opinion though, not trying to take away from your accomplishments with it, and all recommendations are appreciated. Nothing necessarily wrong with that diet either, just a bit strict for my liking.

Ahh naahh lol that I wasn't limited to just that, I was just more or less listing some of my favorites from the phone lol. I did have to eat at least or close to 2000 calories a day which was hard to do on a budget.

side note but I really don't understand why bodybuilders haven't embraced the obvious deus ex: human revolution angle for something like steroid use

you're literally practicing human enhancement, why not frame it in the coolest way possible

Try a local-based alkaline water if you can (like one that's only made in your area). I personally love it since it doesn't have that salty aftertaste which you'd normally get from Brita/Poland Spring/Dasani, plus you know if the water is pure or not

Everything else sounds like good stuff man...I could learn from you about the veggies and other important aspects for eating healthy (like cooking and stuff XD). I personally love banana/strawberry protein shakes the best, but if you are looking for some diversity...try strawberry/raspberry, banana, blueberry, blackberry, kiwi, peanut butter & honey/flavored peanut butter, your protein powder of choice (I prefer Muscle Milk), and almond milk (since it's a lot healthier than regular milk).

What I've been doing as far as like replacing margarin, butter, and mayo goes...I replace margarin/butter with olive oil (healthy fats) and mayo with avocado (much healthier), so I'd highly suggest that, too. Avocado goes great if you're making anything that requires mayo, but especially tuna (I haven't figured that one out, but avocado & tuna is heavenly haha). I also strongly believe that you have to eat at least five small meals a day, but also that you can have a cheat meal once or twice a week (depending on how well you worked out and stuff).

With all that said, I think I could learn from everyone here about dieting better. I did manage to lose 10 lbs. throughout the past two weeks by eating healthier and going to thaiboxing & bjj classes...so that's good

I pretty much just drink purified and filtered water throughout the day. Yerba mate tea and drinks are also really good and make me feel energized. I'll check out the alkaline water though, I've seen a few brands at the grocery store.

I can't drink muscle milk haha, every time I try it I either get sick or it goes straight through me lol. There must be something in it that my body doesn't take too well with.

Almond Milk is really good too; I'm addicted to Whole Milk though haha but I should probably drink less of that and go with almond instead.

For shakes, I usually get frozen berries, peaches, and other assorted fruit and mix it in the blender with my shake mixes along with honey and some milk or water depending on mood. I did some number crunching on calories and my drinks usually have more than 750-800 calories because I'm trying to gain mass.

This is my favorite Tea brand. It's so pure tasting, but I'll have to try Yerba mate one of these days

Other than that...yea I could use some of your recipes for food XD I would like to be able to have variety on my plate :P

the "I don't masturbate to increase my testosterone levels" line of reasoning has gripped hold of way too many people, including a guy I hang out with.

it's amazing how much people believe that abstinence of something will give them some magical advantage. I don't know why this is, but I suspect it has to do with some kind of purity disposition, like the kind mentioned in this talk

anyway, http://www.yourbrainonporn.com/book/export/html/148

levels of testosterone for men are, iirc, somewhere around 30mg - 90mg a week

assuming that most men will be around 60mg it seems pretty pointless to do so much work for what amounts to an extra 10mg, especially given that bodybuilders routinely inject 500+mg/week to experience elevated testosterone advantages. if you want elevated testosterone, inject testosterone. otherwise you're basically wasting your time.

I suspect your ability to build muscle naturally has much more to do with the way your body is arranged to deal with myostatin but that's just a hunch

There's a lot of dumb shit that people spew out in the fitness community, but this one might be the dumbest shit.
