Default Windows 10 and FFR Testing

Since there was a lot of people wondering whether windows 10 would be an FFR killer like windows 8 was, i decided i would act as a guinea pig for everyone else.

just some things first, i have used both windows 7 and 8 for FFR before, and currently tested windows 10. i tried out standalone flash versions 11, 12, 13, and 16.

11 - never cared for this version in particular, and the story continues for windows 10. very choppy and laggy.

12 - version i use on windows 7. wasnt nearly as laggy as windows 8, but it still has trouble processing input on songs above the 70's range. decent, but let's just say it's not meant to play in tourneys with.

13 - even more laggy than 12 was.

16 - the worst of them all. i honestly just tried this one cuz it was the newest version on the standalone list in the thread.

So! overall, it's not quite as bad as windows 8, but if you plan on still playing this slowly dying game at a high level, windows 7 would be your best bet. if anybody else had different experiences with windows 10, u can share here.

I've been using FP14 since I can remember and I've never had a problem with it running R3. I've been using Windows 7 & 8 and neither produced problems. It's only when I try the Velocity engine that it just becomes unplayable or the game freezes. So any TCG challenges involving Velo engine are basically impossible for me.

On OP, cheers for doing some testing as I'm moving to Windows 10 very shortly so hopefully everything runs smoothly.

Thanks for making this thread. I was actually considering upgrading to Windows 10 (from Windows 7) in order to try fix my FPS issues in FFR.

Anyway, thanks to choof I tried out Flash 18 standalone for Windows 7 and it's working great so far Hooray.

I'm getting lag in 18 still - not sure what it is. I've tried theme changes, real-time processing through task manager, exiting programs and windows and processes of anything not flash player... Basically anything I could think of. If anyone has suggestions or solutions feel free to throw them out there.

Someone (YoshL? was it you?) mentioned on Skype that he thought someone had mentioned Microsoft Edge working well. You know, the web browser. That oddly named replacement for Internet Explorer.

Out of morbid curiosity, I just gave it a spin. I have absolutely nothing to compare it to; I've never played FFR on this hardware before upgrading to Windows 10 (from 8) a few days ago, nor have I tried any Flash standalone players on a machine running 10.

I was still surprised to see it run pretty smoothly, though. Just throwing that out there!

honestly, if (when) edge gets addon support, I might switch over
it's a pretty slick browser but with no addon/extension support, there's no form of adblock outside of actually blocking advertisement ip addresses in your host files

flash 18
cons:
-all native advertisements are replaced with ads for $5000 creative cloud packages
-automatically sells your credit card information to nigerian princes
-opens your actual residence's backdoor (or if not applicable, your front door) permanently, giving the local wildlife (i.e squirrels, stray cats, and hookers) free reign

pro:
-runs ffr smoothly

I had W10 for not even a day and I went right back to W7.

I found flash 9 to run the smoothest, but accuracy was awkward. Flash 11 ran well too, but once again, awkward accuracy. Went right back to W7 and my usual stuff is an orgasm compared to what I experienced in W10.

In my experience so far, FFR runs better in-browser (Edge, Chrome, and Firefox) on W10 than it did with any of the standalones on W8.

Only thing to watch out for (that I have noticed) is that on W10 I had to decrease FFR's fps to 60. Anything over that and I experience very jarring lag.

Edit: Forgot to mention that judge offsets might be pretty volatile in W10. Example: I had to use +0.45 on Electric Butterfly and then -0.7 immediately afterwards on Doppelganger.

Well, I just upgraded to Windows 10 to try it out for myself. I couldn't get to run FFR smoothly. All versions of Flash had a microstutter in them which was unplayable. I'd rather have the occasional FPS drop that I had in Windows 7. Also, for some reason, the game was 'zoomed in', which made everything look very pixely, even when I resized the window to normal size again.

Reverting back to Windows 7 right now.
