Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
Well, this puzzle round stops scoring points at 11:59pm EST Sunday night, plus 2 days minimum for the song is 11:59pm Tuesday night. I figured I'd give an extra couple days for people to wrangle with FFR scores, so I'm going to officially end the tourney at 11:59pm EST on Thursday the 31st of January.

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
if i can somehow AAA One Last Battle or Policy int he Sky i might come in 2nd (assuming i get this first and don't suck at duality/this song), but i could also end up in fourth...whatever happened to the prize distribution for this sucker, it used to be posted somewhere

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
Yeah, I basically have no idea about half of these x_x
EDIT: By the way..... here's my score for Round 9's level, I hated this file with a passion, I thought the steps were garbage, and I don't ever want to play it again >_< If people beat this score (I expect dore and maybe Tass will), then oh well =/ Last edited by -Yukari-; 01-26-2008 at 01:28 AM.. |

Also, jonathan, hate to break it to you, but the round 10 song is going to be about as easy to AAA as the round 10 riddle has been to solve quickly. Edit: Pot Size: 201,500 Code:

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
you can distribute my prize winnings to the other places. not only do i not want the credits, i can't take them anyway. my credit count is maxed.
also, i've eliminated 8 of the thingies... 14 more to either figure out or decide they're fake. although no f-ing clue how to determine that or not. as i said via PM, it'd be really nice to know how many fake ones there are. edit: also, this isn't that great.... should improve to beat 7, at least... but for now: also... only spent about 15-20 minutes on the puzzle to eliminate the 8.

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
Yeah, nothing against the way you run your tournament or your taste / choice of levels, Devonin :) The steps are indeed synced very well, but to me, sync is not a deciding factor of a level's enjoyment; actually, it's a prerequisite to whether or not the level should even be accepted. What makes the level is the choice of patterns, and I found Szamar Madar's patterns to be tedious and annoying, especially in the end (about where you've passed the string of down arrows, 800+ or so to the end). Just my opinion :)
EDIT: I realize you said the pitch relevancy, I don't even notice that in a level O_o Any plans on running a second tournament like this? I realize you would have to come up with a whole new set of puzzles, but if you ever do something like this again, I'll be there :) Last edited by -Yukari-; 01-26-2008 at 02:05 AM.. |

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
I'll absolutely run more tourneys like this in the future if there's enough interest. Bear in mind that this was my very first tourney ever, and I've already learned a lot of things to keep doing, and never do again.
The question becomes whether I'd be better served making the puzzles harder with longer rounds, and bill it more towards that end (Losing a lot of participants but likely gaining more) or make the rounds easier, but perhaps more frequent to draw in a more casually participating crowd. As for coming up with new puzzles, unlike this time, where I counted on my ability to make up rounds as I went along, I'd just slowly build up a number of puzzles, and when I had enough, run a tourney. @Tass: I'll split up the credits among everyone as you suggested, thanks for the generosity, even if you have max credits because you have wonky admin powers :P @Everyone, You know, you can easily enough be trading information around with each other in private messages. @Everyone based on what Tass said about wishing he knew how many fake ones there were: Maybe there's a clue about fakery in the puzzle somewhere Also, there are a number of ways you could try to reverse engineer the clues instead of trying to simply figure them out from scratch. Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
Ha, now I know the answer I just sent in is wrong, but that helps me greatly.
Also, Szamar Madar done on the shiny new beta. I'll make a run on the public game if this isn't acceptable for some reason. |

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
Szamar Madar is hands down the best file in the game. Not only is the music absolutely amazing but the steps are perfect as well.

Here's Szamar Madar. Not a very good score, but hey, it's still an FC.

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
Grr.. a song I loath and a song I love at the same time.
Duality : (POO SCORE WTF I HATE THIS SONG. First fc after a lot of trying). Szamar Madar : (SDG . I love the steps to this song. But the rolls destroy my PA.) |

Updated to here, and we have our first correct answer of the round.
-Yukari- is in at just over 7 hours, which is the longest we've gone before a correct response. |

Re: Devonin's Critical Thinking Tournament
As I make it, if dore doesn't solve this puzzle, and I AAA any of the songs I haven't done, I can get 2nd.
brb whoring Policy In The Sky I've enjoyed this tournament Devonin, thanks for making it. EDIT: Yay! Platypus has been a long time coming, I can tell you. Last edited by Fractal_Monkey; 01-26-2008 at 12:46 PM.. |
