I can understand what you mean...though, I think the ratings are pretty accurate as far as how they are already rated... some are debateable, sakura heavy 10 footer = joke (for example)...but the speed and parts where it slows down is what makes it a 10 footer.... arguing with how they are rated wont change anything, so dont bother in the first place.

examples: if you really considered matsuri japan an 8.7, and you rounded it up, you'd have the current rating which is 9. exotic ethnic you gave it a 9.3, while in reality it's a 9... You get my drift... I don't understand why adding all these decimals to the ratings make much of a difference.

The decimals are there to add another dimension to the foot ratings, IE, Matsuri Japan wasn't quite a 9 (in his opinion) so he rated it an 8.7.
It's like choosing to rate a product a 9/10 instead of an 8.5/10 (which it really deserves in this case).

I'd actually agree with most of that. I'd scale things down abit on the upper end to give PSMO a 10.9, PSM 10.5, Legend 10.3, Unlimited 10.1 and PS and Max both 10.
PSMO is waaaay beyond anything else in DDR. I can soundly do every other 10 and PSMO still laughs at me, so IMO it should have some breathing room up top.

Hey guys, incase you didn't know...
If the song is a Flashing 10, ex: when you select PSMO, the foot rating flashes, it is considered 11 step difficulty.

assuming that the afronova you put down was RevenG's version
i 'd say the version by 8-bit is just as hard. 9.0

To add to what Spazzbite said: ITG has a built-in difficulty rating system when you go to select songs. On the song wheel, you can see a bunch of stats including # jumps, # holds, # hands, # mines, total # steps, and some other junk. If ITG thinks that those numbers are unusually high (depends on the category, but 600+ steps, 80+ holds and hands, 150+ jumps and 100+ mines or something like that) then it changes the text color to red and flashes the number - just like a flashing 10 for DDR. As far as DDR goes, a lot of the song ratings which Konami decided on just flat-out suck. I don't even think the rating system for StepMania is that great either (it gives Max.(period) a 9.something - WTF?) But hey, ITG isn't much better. Bouff, for example, is rated at only 10 feet, and yet I can squeeze out an 80% on Charlene (rated 11 feet) MUCH easier than I can on Bouff. It seems that the foot rating systems are based on a lot of different factors, including how tiring the song is (PSMO being the hardest), how difficult it is to read (Bag being one of the hardest), how many steps there are and what type of steps they are (straight stream vs. a lot of jumps) and how difficult the step patterns are (Across the Nightmare having relatively simple 8th's at 300BPM, Max 300 having more difficult ones). So when you say that such and such a song "should" have such and such a rating, you're making an incredibly subjective assertion which a lot of people might disagree with you on, depending on their strengths/weaknesses. Fortunately, Konami gave relatively good ratings to most of its songs, which means we don't have to reinvent them...again. Discuss what makes a song difficult instead of what its rating is (who cares) - that's a much more interesting discussion.

for taps, jumps, and hands, ITG has white text if there's none of them, green if there are relatively few, yellow if there's a good number, red if there are lots, and glowing red if there are tons. Mines seem to be in white all the time for some reason.
As for ITG ratings, there's always lots of arguments going on at their official forums. Foy usually responds with "it's hard to you but not for most people" or "when people get used to mines/hands/this step pattern that isn't seen much in DDR, the song will seem much easier." Just remember kids, L,D,R,L,R,D,L = fun! |
