Re: Quitting smoking.
My dad was a smoker for I don't even know how long. He had finally quit when we were kids didn't touch one for 7 years. After my parents divorced he went right back to it again and now everytime he tries to quit he's right back on it again a few days later. It's ridiculous the hold the nicotine has on you. Plus just the mental aspect of it you end up associating so many things with cigs. Like after eating.

It depends on the reasons somebody has at the time to smoke, which impacts your motivation. If you're quitting cause you wanna see your grandchildren grow up, you're going to have way more motivation than some guy in his 20's thinking "Hey this isn't bad for me, I should probably try and stop". |

Re: Quitting smoking.
Most 20 year olds I know when they want to quit are just like "Meh, I guess I should quit this". It's easier to be motivated to see grandchildren when you've had kids, plus you want to set a good example blah blah blah. Point is I think it's the norm to have more motivation to quit when you're older.

Re: Quitting smoking.
Well... subjectivity.
I remembering reading about a study that illustrated how much of an impact the individual's perception of their problem has when trying to force a change their own behaviour. Any smoker would be much likelier to quit if they were forced to run for long stretches right after smoking every morning. |

Re: Quitting smoking.
I personally just want to try a cigarette so I can say how much cigs suck.
Not worth the trouble trying to get one though. |

Re: Quitting smoking.
It'll taste bad but you'll get an really nice buzz if you do it right. If done right you'll probably end up liking it until you stop getting buzzes lol.

Re: Quitting smoking.
lol I'd quit just because of how expensive they are.
One woman was buying a carton of cigarettes at cvs and it was literally around 45 bucks. Her daughter bought a magazine and it came to a total of like, 63 dollars. Maybe the price of the carton was more around 50 then...my goodness.

Re: Quitting smoking.
What exactly is a "carton" of cigarettes? I thought a pack was a couple dollars.

Re: Quitting smoking.
A carton is 10 packs together; it's usually a little cheaper than actually buying the 10 packs, but only hardcore smokers buy them.
A pack stopped being cheap (around $2) when the sin tax hit. For me, packs are at least $3.50, but I hear in NY it's like $7.00 minimum, and when I was in Cali in December they were ****ing $2 more expensive than here ($5.50)

Re: Quitting smoking.
I'm currently writing small bits for my book on the very topic of habitual behaviour. From my observations I can see that everyone forms these habits for distinct reasons. However, there are a few things that seem to be fairly uniform:
- It only takes one to revive the habit. No exceptions, no matter how many excuses you fathom for yourself. - Certain words, phrases, and actions trigger habitual thought process (duh). I.E. - LIGHT WHITE CIGARETTE PUFF - Habitual process is all a part of being human. The comforting routine of a habit is something we're inclined to do on a day to day basis (from something simple as favourite foods, to chemically addictive drugs) which leads to the next point... - Stop talking about quitting if you can. Don't mention that you've quit to anyone and just take the process on your own time. It allows you to truly exercise your will power and to ignore it all together. Clear your mind, do not potentiate your thoughts.
