that last play is not even about risk, it's simply common sense: you don't pass the goddamn ball in the red zone (mind you, at the 2 yard line!?), behind in score with less than a minute to go. there's literally no discernible reason to ever do a pass play there.
Devil's advocate: a lot of pass plays take longer than what they had left on the game clock at the end of the first half. Taking the field goal there is arguably the percentage play in the same way that not throwing the ball at the end of the game is the percentage play.

Seahawks needed 4 points on their final drive; you must get into the end zone, and the defense knows that. Patriots should be putting just about everyone in the box on that play (leaving a receiver or tight end open), because nobody gets fancy enough to throw the ball when they're starting near the goal line with seconds left to play in the Super Bowl, right? ...Right?

The only thing I can say that I honestly believe is that the outcome shapes our perception of the playcall. ...The devil's advocate would be losing this argument pretty hard, though.

weirdest part of halftime: singing beach balls
best part of halftime: badass giant lion puppet right at the beginning
worst part of halftime: no obligatory rap verses (missy cameo doesn't count but was cool anyway)

All is right in the world. The Seattle bandwagon will most likely end.

An absurd statement, lol. Enjoy your night though!
the difference is that at the end of the first half they only had 6 seconds left on the clock, enough time to try a pass (i was expecting a fade for sure, where if they dont complete there is no chance of an interception) and then a fieldgoal if they miss the pass.

at the end of the game there was almost a full minute. you want to run the clock down as close to zero as possible anyways, which means you want to run. you have marshawn lynch, which means you want to run.

I realize that by making this post, it's probably going to end up being redundant;however, that was probably the worst call ever made I have seen in quite awhile. I'm not sure if the coach made that call, or if Carroll did. Either way, I feel bad for Lynch because that pretty much cost him a super bowl ring (I actually like him even though I'm a lolCowboys fan). After the crazy pass play that got them to that mark on the field, it pretty much guaranteed them a win(granted with the amount of time on the clock). I'm not sure if I fully understand what was the thought process behind that call and I've seen some teams pass it in on 3rd down being that close to the goal line; however, given it's the superbowl, playing it safe was the best call (running the ball). Plus, Lynch is a beast, and knows how to break through the line of scrimmage lots of times. He's made some insane plays during his career with the Seahawks. Not sure why Carroll didn't just trust him. Plus, it didn't help the situation that the Seahawks were causing a fight after they realized the huge fuck up on their part.
I did not watch this entire game since my team got dropped in playoffs( because of the stupid Dez Bryant catch). I'm looking forward to the next season, and the draft. Congrats Patriots. I still fucking hate you lol.

Carroll is the coach, Darrell Bevell is the OC. Either way there is no way Carroll didn't know about the call there and 99% of the population (including people who don't watch football and babies/toddlers) know you run it there 3 times over lol

There's still an investigation into the deflations. The Patriots were caught cheating before, back in '07 I think, taping hand signals.
