Default All poetry here :)

So, I was hoping to start an official poetry thread where ffr members can come together and post some of their own work or poems that they really enjoy. Also, to post any thoughts, analysis, and relations to the poem. That being said I hope there are a lot of poetry fans out there.

Well, guess ill be the one to go first.

Nature's first green is gold

Her hardest hue to hold

Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.
-Robert Frost

This is one of my favorites.

Cool. I guess i'll post second. This is an original poem I wrote while thinking about a bunch of proverbs.

An eye for an eye
and we'd all be blind
to the beauty placed here for us to behold;
By a single word from a wise old man.
He sees sitting down,
what we fail to from the mountain,
that all that glitters is not gold.
For though two wrongs don't make a right,
they inevitably spawn revenge.
-Midnighter

I'm not really sure what i was trying to say, so tell me what it says to you.

Im guessing it means conflict gets you nowhere. Try a peaceful solution instead. Hmm... Classic moral in an interesting way of putting it too.

This is the most annoying artistic stance I know of. Why would you bother creating something with no purpose?

Blind World (villanelle style poem)

Something I had always thought;
Why are people blind to see?
All alone had battles fought.

Dimmest light from the sun sought,
for just another fool's fee.
Something I had always thought.

Only ill fate themselves brought,
surely they would all agree.
All alone had battles fought.

Another dawn brings the drought.
Who can still water the tree?
Something I had always thought.

Again some extra time bought,
the weakest wanting to flee.
All alone had battles fought.

Only bravest people ought
to open their eyes all free.
Something I had always thought,
All alone had battles fought.

---

Should be 7 syllables per sentence (I'm finnish so I might be bad at counting them however).

I know drought isn't rhyming with the rest when pronounced but I was getting out of options and wanted to put in such sentence.

Meaning is pretty obvious, how majority of people let our beautiful world go to the crapper and only a few (in comparison) will stand up for it.

The purpose was to write. I try to write daily so i can improve my writing skills. Sometimes i don't feel like writing, but i do anyway so i put something down for the day. It doesn't have to tell me something. Half the time writers write for their audience instead of themselves. Think before you make Insulting comments like that. Critisizm is fine, but there's no reason for insults.

I'm kind of confused dude. Could you explain it a bit? Thanks.

Do you mean the style or the content?

Style: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Villanelle

Content: The Refrain 1 and 2 belong to a single person, he thinks about subjects and then comes to conclusion he stands for them alone (not really alone but that's the catch).

Only parts that should need any explanation from the other lines:

Dimmest light from the sun sought,
for just another fool's fee.

This can have many meanings; in my eyes this is already depicting the devastation on the world (futuristic vision on the subject), going at it with a metaphor that even sun would be losing it's glow and it's ultimately too late to fix things (since taking the last light out of sun in order to fix things would totally kill the world - making it a fool's fee), opposed to starting improving our ways early on.

Again some extra time bought,
the weakest wanting to flee.

The hazard of making short term improvements, that don't quite add up on the long run environmentally.

Only bravest people ought
to open their eyes all free.

Only brave people will fight for the beauty they can wittness instead of thinking that their effort doesn't matter, that their effort is useless, since the world won't totally diminish during their lifetime, making it less meaningful for them to aid it instead of shun it.

Hopefully those clear things out

Frost is always so beautiful. His poems have such a dynamic picture and layout. Great post. I got chills reading it.
