Feature Upgrade Request(?): Daily Stats Information
Hey, I was looking at my Daily Stats and was thinking, is there any way they could track the amount of time we have been playing per day? Maybe that would make people feel more self-conscious, but I think it would be neat-o.
I realize this might complicate it by having to add some function where it tracks if someone stopped at say 1:37 on a 3:19 song, but if you can do that, then great! Maybe Grandtotal Playtime, too? Or maybe "Time Wasted on FFR: 3721 Hours" etc. idk. Discuss. |

I like the idea of being able to track a "Total Time Wasted on FFR: XXXX". That would be a fun statistic. It is similar to gameplays, but as we all know, 2000 gameplays of excite bike does not equate to 2000 play of red wings over bacon. Kind of similarly, the member length doesn't give an accurate description of how much time you spend playing FFR either, considering a lot of people who have been on the site for years simply use it to chat.

If this was thought of when FFR started, sure, but no cause it wouldn't exactly work with people already in the game. They don't save all your games played, only the last few. If they saved all of them, the database would be quite a few terabytes in size.

All they'd have to do is begin a timer that only runs during gameplay...that way it would be a running total. Wouldn't really have to save anything to do with the game if they could program that.

Hmm, I never knew that the Gameplay Daily Stats were implemented from the start. Interesting food for thought. Maybe next time I make a suggestion I will think of that.
also, what about past game Justin? I guess we could put "Time Wasted Since bla/bla/bla: XXXX" but then we would have to accommodate for new players as well. I didn't think it would be that hard when I made the suggestion. |

Well that's why I suggested the timer thing...if it only ran during gameplay, it would only clock actual time spent in songs.

My comment was mostly aimed towards a grandtotal time, not daily. Daily is EASILY done. The time of the song is kept track of while the mp3 is playing, so you don't need a timer. It's a ever-changing variable. All you need to do is get that value just before quitting occurs, and add that amount to your total daily time. Simple implementation on the engines.

maybe we could implement it for future songs, but not the past ones?(Because it's impossible now, or nearly, anyway) I am sure people who actually play FFR would understand.

I think it would be cool to somehow get it to log all of what we did in the past as far as gameplay time went, but in all honesty I don't see it being possible at all. That being said, I still think it would be a pretty cool feature honestly to be able to see how much time we log actually playing FFR. Even if it can't tell us how much we already have.

Well for score sanity checks, we already log when you start a song. All you would have to do then is add the time from when the score is saved, and because negative scores don't record anyway, it would only be real playing time.

Velocity that wouldn't be a good indicator of time cause depending on the connection speed of the user, the save could happen anywhere from 0-20 seconds after the song actually ended.

My engine sends a bunch of things to the server that isn't tracked in case I ever needed it.
