Lots-o-Lag
What's up? I'm no idiot with computers, and I a Mac currently. I can't get FFR to stop lagging. I only have FFR running and nothing else on the computer and I'm running highspeed internet. Wondering why this won't stop lagging. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Lots-o-Lag
Is there some process (coughfirefoxcough) that's sapping all your memory? If so get rid of it. And play on low quality.

Have you used the standalone flash player? Now that the newer Velocity engine has log-in support straight from the game itself, you won't have to worry about not being able to authenticate yourself.
Here's a link for Standalone Flash Player 9 for Mac: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/f...ayer_9.app.zip When you get the flash player, click on Open and paste this url into the text box: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/~velocity/ffr_Wide.swf To further reduce lag, try reducing detail in graphical settings. Let me know what happens! Also, remember that Flash is a pretty intensive program, and running all sorts of graphics as well as audio streams at once can definitely add on that. |

Re: Lots-o-Lag
you make it sound like it's not worth it. Anywho, tell us if that worked. (it SHOULD). Some computers don't like FP9, though. (get FP8, if that happens)

Re: Lots-o-Lag
It's not short term. There's no fix other than a complete re-write of the FFR code.
Edit: I did find this: http://www.mattshaw.org/projects/flash-plugin-switcher/ It lets you change the installed version on flash, so you can switch to 9 when playing FFR and back to 10/11 for whatever else. Last edited by MaxGhost; 08-15-2011 at 08:36 AM.. |

Re: Lots-o-Lag
I don't use a standalone and I play FFR fine on Firefox. Downgrade to Flash 8 if you haven't already..
I use Chrome for everything else. |

Re: Lots-o-Lag
It never lagged for me for years before FFR went down. Now it's unplayable even with standalone, low quality, fresh boot, gamebooster, XP, reformat, new and old computer...

Re: Lots-o-Lag
Re-read my post. Flash 10/11 started deprecating AS2 support (the version of actionscript, i.e. the code flash uses) in favor of the newer AS3 standard. A few years ago, You used flash 9 in your browser, but you updated since, so it lags.

Re: Lots-o-Lag
That wide screen FFR is better, but it still lags to the point that I cannot play. I always take the quality down, my flash is updated as far as I know and when I tried that url to change to flash 9, the mac software doesn't work...ughhh I just want to play my beloved ffr again lol

You know nothing about computers and therefore should not give computer advice. But yeah I don't know an awful lot about Macs but it doesn't surprise me that it would be difficult to downgrade software on one since Apple tends to make their products more restrictive. There's probably a work around though if you google it. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Downgrade+%22Flash+9%22+Mac |

Re: Lots-o-Lag
I've been looking around for a little bit and figured this would be the best place to post considering I don't want to make a new thread based on the same problem.
The difference is I use a PC laptop with XPSP3. I've never had a problem before with ffr before it had gone down for that year (yeah I'm just now coming back to play again). I also have massive issues with lag, but more than that I also seem to have massive latency with keystrokes for ffr to register (both the version on the front page with MP and Velocity's engine). I know my processor isn't exactly the best but is the new engines that much more intensive that I can't even play anymore when I had absolutely no problem before? My processor isn't exactly the greatest but I do have 1.93GB of RAM, so memory is definitely not the issue here. I mean, I have no troubles running things like Lunatic Rave 2 and sm-ssc without any sort of latency and lag. I did try uninstalling flash whatever version they are on now and going to flash 9 but I didn't see any difference at all with what's going on. And no, it isn't my keyboard nor the key layout I use. I don't have problems with those at all in sm. I don't run anything else in the background and with task manager running, I only have 29 processes running, most of which are not using much processing power at all nor use up a lot of memory. Firefox and the flash plugin take up the most memory when I have ffr running. I'm guessing it's more problematic on my end, but the latency issue boggles me unless flash really hates my laptop (which wouldn't surprise me at all <.<). |
