What makes a good FFR player?
The big question. What makes a good FFR player. Scratch that, what makes a PRO FFR player? I just realized, I'm rank 1 in New England, and my average rank is 9, and I have the 26th highest avrank of all, which I guess makes me 26th best at FFR? And I'm tier 1. But does that mean I'm a good player? Sure some may say that. Do you think I am? Because I don't think I'm good at all. Their are hundreds of players who are better than me in their own way. Sure, I got lucky a few times on Holy Orders, which really people, is a low FGO, and I can hold my PA to 99% BF AAA'ing on any VC or lower file, and about 4/5 of all the FMO's as well, but I can't do any of the higher FGO's at all. I can't do one handed trills, I have trouble FCing Little God Channel without mashing, and I definitely have trouble FC'ing Hardkore Atomic, I had someone get that skill token for me, though now I am capable of getting it and have FC'd the song, it's still difficult for me to FC that song, seriously, but I can get a clean 32-0-0-0 on Strawberry Sweetz. My Rev Etude score sucks, and my La Camp and RATO rank are in the 300's. I see people who have much lower average rank than me, who can get under 20 goods on Little God Channel and can clean FC GGC, and I think, wow, those players are AMAZING. And then they tell me that's easy, how did you AAA Big Blue and Holy Orders? And ya know what I tell them, THAT'S easy in comparison. God, I can't even make it through GGC without mashing for my combo, those trills and jacks? Seriously.
What I'm saying is, I have criteria that puts me at what people say is 'a good player', and I see people get scores (34-1-0-3 on GGC, forget who it was, but just some guy in like D5 of a tourney before FFR died but couldn't AAA for his life) and I say, wow, I wish I were that good, boy do I suck. Clearly there is an opinion on what's hard and what makes a good player. So, what do you guys think? Are you good players? What scores do you think are more impressive? Clean FC's on really hard FGO's or AAA's on high FMO's?

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
I think there's a wide gap from good to professional. For example, I would be considered good to people who are fairly new or haven't played before. Am I good compared to people with skill points? No. (The only tier points I have are mashed) But average rank is probably the best indicator of skill as long as the player has attempted every song (or almost all of them). The lines of professional, great, or good players are certainly vague and subjective. But being 26th in average rank is an indisputable piece of evidence towards making that decision. If you were the 26th fastest marathon runner in the world, would you consider yourself a professional? I'd hope so.
Personally, the cleaner the scores on a hard song, the more impressive it is to me. The only real difference when I play an FGO vs an FMO is my boo count. In general, a good player would practice on his or her weaknesses to become a better player. The difference between the good player and the professional would be whether they have fixed most of the issues or not. Even professionals have weaknesses, but some players have a lot fewer than others (Rubix .... cough cough). |

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
You have different strengths and weakness's from other people. You are simply focusing on your weaknesses in this post which makes you feel like you are worse than the people you specified. You probably are better overall, but in a few select songs/patterns you just aren't nearly as strong at as you are with most. The attitude of "I'm not good yet" Or "So many people are still better than me" is what makes you want to keep getting better at the game, it's ok .
A good ffr player is one that always feels the need to improve. ps clean fc's on hard fgo's are INFINITELY better than high fmo AAA's. |

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
You are pro when you hit T0 and thats pretty much it. T1 is basically you are good, T0 is what separates you from being good to being very good. If you compare the amount of players in T0 to T1 you notice that T1 has exceedingly more. While T0 has about low double digits (i am not sure how many T0's there are, w/ old tier system and new system). T0 players indicate a type well rounded-ness that most players wish to have and are capable of doing most patterns, streams, and etc.

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
Honestly. I am a good player. I have pretty consistant PA on almost any song. I just can't combo too well. As for a PRO player. Derek hit the nail on the head

You become a good player when you can read any stepchart. You become a great player when you learn to optimize your execution to hit what you read at higher levels.

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
I already explained which ones were hacked by Taco and which ones weren't, and Holy Orders was one of them that wasn't, unless he botted again on top of my score and saved the replay. I didn't save my playthrough replay, so I don't know if he did, it's all in TC's thread. I'm still really mad about that

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
I don't think "pro" is a proper "name" for good players, because the fact of, like Carlos said, no one gets paid for playing FFR.
But, in my honest opinion, you become a good player when you're able to hit 16ths in a considerable speed, like 180 bpm. But, you're just "good". To become a very good or even a "master" player, which have excellent precision (Moches, Gundam-Dude, Midare), speed (Staiain, Isaac, Dossar) and resistance (everyone who can AA files like Reach's Gigadelic, Blue Planet, and so on), you have a long way. So, using what Derek said, with my point of view, even T4s are good, because they can AAA 8s and 9s, afaik, which means they can consistely PA 16ths streams at a reasonable speed. |

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
This is exactly what I was going to say what I read the op lol
This ain't no sport; we don't get sponsored to play xd As for a good FFR player, well... we all have our different definitions of good. I don't think it's worthwhile to give a definitive line because who we see as good in this game changes quite a bit depending on your own skill level/personality. Not to mention where your priorities lie in the skill domain (do you focus on MA? do you focus on speed? do you want to be good all around? etc.) For someone of very mediocre/average skill (like me xd) you could call yourself a terrible player because you compare yourself to higher tier players, or you could call yourself a good player because you are better than many more players who aren't as good at the game, or don't invest as much time in the game. "Good" people for me? You're all fucen bull**** in my book :')

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
It's all subjective, but:
You're average if you can get accepted into an FFR forum tournament (D1) based on your ability. You're good if you can AAA about a handful of difficult songs here and there. You're great if you can do that consistently. You're excellent if you can AAA a bunch of harder songs consistently. You're fantastic if you can actually get a tier point. You're marvelous if you have enough tier points to make at least Tier 2. You're god if you're Rubix or able to hang in there with Rubix.. You're a professional if you constantly strive to get better at the game, regardless of where you rank among the elites or fellow players.

Re: What makes a good FFR player?
IIRC, Tier 4 is classified as "FFR Pro"
There's definitely a thick line between Pro and Elite. People who are SDGing and AAAing high FGOs are elite. People who are AAAing 9s with relative ease I guess I would consider pro. Quote:
