However, my mom also has negative long-term memories dominate her life. We both have ridiculously good long-term memories but not very good short-term memories. She will rehearse the things that have traumatized her by retelling the same stories, she will hold grudges as a result of this, and she will dwell on things. I've picked up all of these habits and have had to slowly shake them off -- especially the last one. She picked up these habits, though, because of her insanely traumatic childhood. Way way way worse than anything anyone has posted here.

I often feel guilty because she has never been able to have an entirely stress-free life, and I want her to have one soon. I resent the fact that I have so many financial obligations at the moment because it would be so great if I could make her life easier.

My dad is one of the most 'alpha' people I have ever met in my life. Think Gordon Ramsay-tier. In fact, he could probably beat Gordon Ramsay in a shouting match and I say that as someone who is an enormous fan of Gordon Ramsay. In terms of the way my dad carries himself I am ridiculously like him, almost a carbon copy -- the males in my family tend to be that way. He's 6'3" and has a thunderous voice. I have not, at any point in my life, met someone who yells louder than he does (although apparently his brother does).

He's mostly a conditional asshole, e.g. he will be very nice to you if you aren't interfering with his bubble or routine, but if you become a problem with him he will be the biggest dick in the world up to the point where you're no longer screwing with his shit.

Otherwise, he's pretty jolly.

However, there are several bad habits I learned implicitly from him as a kid, and had to correct when I got older:

1. He feels entitled to voice his anger or annoyance about anything in the most obnoxious way possible. He'll spill something on his table, for example, and it's this thunderclap of "FUCKING SHIT!!!!"... you do not need to take little things like that so angrily. That's unnecessary elevation of stress levels.

2. He gets on the defense about things and angrily jumps to blaming people.

3. His rhetorical strategy is like 2/3 intimidation, 1/3 everything else. He will resort to yelling *first*, then you have to whittle him down to being a reasonable person by being unphased by it.

Especially #1. In college especially, I remember getting furious at really little things a lot because I internalized this way of acting. This is actually a really harmful way to live, but everyone in my family hugely overreacts to obstacles so I didn't know it could be done any differently.

The past year or so has been me realizing what habits I got from my parents and how I could get rid of those. When I'm around my parents lately, I'm zen by comparison; they are so easily stressed out, and I can see how that made me, as their child, someone who would later be diagnosed with generalized anxiety.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Yelled Foil in horror.
"Don't worry. I'm a wizard" uttered Keywii. And with that, Foil's penis grew back.

Probably are the only one. With the kind of niche hobby ffr is it wouldn't be that unlikely for that kind of person to excel at it. There is no chance that he is saying anything bad about autism or about ffr.

I didn't make this as a thread, it was split off from another thread about someone sending hate mail to the mother of an autistic child, seeing as it was basically a bunch of people who play FFR mentioning that they had various kinds of ASDs.

And as someone who myself plays FFR and has an ASD, I hardly think I was trying to make a negative connection between the two.

Well on a serious note it is a plausible inference considering FFR is repetitive as fuck, based on patterns and numbers, etc. I do occasionally enjoy it myself but uhhhhh I can't even imagine playing as often as some of y'all do which is probably why I got a 4 on that test and I didnt even study

Scored 24 on the AQ thing...seems about right cuz I've been thinking lately that I'm borderline ASD haha

My gf and I actually discussed this idea for a correlation between ASD and rhythm games a while ago and I bet it would be interesting to see stats for this .

The perfect storm for an FFR player is someone obsessed with numbers, easily consumed/fixated on one thing, heavy interest in music and perhaps a giftedness with it, and since it's predominantly forum-based in terms of networking I'm sure that that points more in favour at least statistically to a higher number of ASD individuals than other communities.

Perhaps this correlates about the same with hardcore gamers in general though?

some of these were bizarrely accurate: "I usually notice car number plates or similar strings of information.", "I often notice small sounds when others do not."

but i do fine in conversation / reading feelings

while i sometimes have an urge to blabber on about something nobody would care about, i i generally have the intelligence to know nobody would be listening
