Default Need computer help

I hit system restore shortcut and all I get is a blank window titled "system restore". Any ideas on how to fix this error and get it to work?
I'm on administrator btw.

check and make sure system restore is actually turned on, boot in safe mode if you didn't already.

shut down your computer, reboot and before you see the Windows XP loader with the little loading bar animation, press F9 a few times and a menu should appear. choose "safe mode with networking". if F9 doesn't work, try F10, F8 or F7. if none of those work try the others but i'm pretty sure it should be one of those.

Your computer is corrupt. Put in a boot disk and format.

From my experience, system restore restores your registry and it can be used on a normal computer mode. One of the system applications might not be working properly.

i.e. Rundll32.exe

If the file is indeed corrupt, format the computer or run scandisk in safemode or DOS mode.

Or, chkdsk.exe /f in run if that works.

trust me i know what system restore does, rolls back registry to undo unwanted changes. if rundll32 is indeed corrupt, re-downloading it would be a lot easier then reformatting. reformatting simply due to system restore not working would be terribly foolish.

might be something to do with svchost.exe, i think awhile ago i had a system restore error and svchost had something to do with it.

Bad computer shut down = corrupt file.

If you usually shut your computer off suddenly by using the button next to the power at the back of the computer or pulling the plug, the I STRONGLY suggest that you format your computer and don't be foolish again.

I knew it, because I had the similar problem. I thought it wouldn't do more than make some programs not run, but it came down to my files not saving and I can not run most of my programs on my computer.

That's when I wasted 3 hours of my life installing Windows 98 and XP again.

Uhh, if the application that lets you run DLLs as apps is dead, you're pretty ****ed.
