Jakes Horrid trip to Michigan. --- RIP Demarco
Well, i went up to michigan this past week, and it sucked so much ass i need a log.
Tuesday - Driving to Michigan. In a car for 6 hours. I go see my aunt. Then i go to bed. I realise i left my cell in Kentucky. Wednesday - Pretty much same old junk. I hang out with my family until they get out of school then i call up some old MI friends and we hang out. We go to the mall and i buy a new lighter and some incense. Thursday - Okay, this is where it gets sad. I went to school at the last day of my old school, and they kick me out immediatly. I planned on making plans with some of my old friends like to go to a party or something, but since i was kicked out that didnt happen. I just go to the mall instead, by myself. I run into some poeple and talk for a while, but they end up leaving. My little brother is at his school run pool party. Over 70 kids. When we go over to our family friend's house to pick him up we get told the bad news. Apparently, the lifeguards were little shitheads who cant watch a bunch of little kids. A boy named Demarco Anderson-Turner died while at the party. My fucking brother saw it happen. How the hell does this happen with 3 lifeguards, i dont know. We were all in a slight depression after that, wilson (my brother) the most because it was his friend who died. All other plans that night were cancelled. Friday - We drive home. I was supposed to go to a pool party down here, but because of the events on thursday i've decided not to go. I dont want to freak my parents and brother out and to pay respect to Demarco. RIP DeMarco Anderson-Turner. PS: If anyone has any advice on how i should comfort my brother, please help me out here.

Messed up. Either one of those life guards should die, or all three should be castrated.

Wow, there's little to no excuse for that.
It almost makes me think something happened to the kid before he sunk. How can a body at the bottom of a giant bowl of clear liquid not be visible for so long?

Damn dude, that just sucks. I got no expierence in these matters so i can't really give adivce on what to do. My best bet would be to just be there, or something. Just make yourself available and not unreachable, or something like that.

I remember when my best friend's boyfriend died just this past Christmas. She didn't leave the couch for about a week.
All you can really do is spend time with your brother. Show him that you care. Do activities that he wants to do, take him places he loves to go, mainly just comfort him. And when he's ready to talk he'll come to you. |

Sorry. I can't really tell you much on the subject because I don't have a lot of experience handling situations like this. If you wish to help out your brother deal with this just try to get his mind off of it and don't give him time where he can just sit around moping about what happened. Try to be doing something fun with him at all times. Once again I hope the best for your family at this time and Demarco's family.
RIP Demarco Anderson-Turner |

When a good friend of mine died there was no way I could escape being upset. No matter how much I tried to be strong there was no way I could change the way it effected me. If I could give you any advice is that if your brother is really sad do not try to hard to make him happy, it will only burry things under the surface and harbor more pain. It may even cause him to lash out more. He has every right to be upset as we all know so don't deprive him of that. Instead if you can't make him happy just let him deal with it through time and in his own way. Time is probaly the only way he'll learn how to deal with lifes horrors. Times heals, it really does. Sorry for your brother and you man.

The best way to help your brother at this point is to let him take out his frustrations any way you can, or to provide an outlet for him to express his anger/sadness.
He's probably going to need therapy to get over seeing one of his classmates die at the bottom of the pool. I know I would, and at such a young age, he'll most likely need it. I'm really sorry about what happened though. Those lifeguards should charged with negligant homicide, or even voluntary manslaughter. There is absolutely no excuse for a child to be spotted dead at the bottom of a pool by someone other than a lifeguard. No excuse at all.

Well, he appears to be doing just fine, thanks for all of your support though :/
Ironically, he's going to another pool party soon, a much smaller one though. Our parents agreed to let him go as long as my dad chaporones. He's not going to his 4h camp, but i think we all agree that's a bad idea (swim camp 3 hours away).

Re: Jakes Horrid trip to Michigan. --- RIP Demarco
Hey, I was actually just doing a search to find out the time of Demarco's funeral services, and I wound up on this page with your story. I was a teacher at his school and had his little sister in my class as an intern. I was a substitute for Demarco's class and the other two fifth grade classes as well. He was such a sweet boy and I adored him. I am so sorry that your little brother had to witness that. I am still trying to figure out how it happened myself, I think about it all the time. I can't stop thinking about all of the children that had to see that. I was told Demarco's mother was there as well. I had just seen him a few hours before this happened at school, it's just crazy. Well anyway, my thoughts are with your brother and just be there for him. If he wants to talk about it, be there to listen. If your brother is planning on attending the funeral, I will see him there. Take care.

Wow, that is stupidity in its most obvious form: 3 lifeguards failing to see the person dying in the water...
