Considering going back to school
I was considering going back to college in order to get an Actuarial degree, any thoughts on that field? I've always done well in math classes and I like working with numbers and statistics.

Re: Considering going back to school
As long as you really and I mean REALLY enjoy math and science and you know for a fact that you could land a nice job with that field, you should go for it. If not, why bother.

Re: Considering going back to school
prepare for an exorbitant amount of time studying to pass your SOA exam
there are other fields that make as much money and don't require as much work. but if you're really passionate about statistics and calculating contingencies go for it. source: a close friend of mine is in his 3rd year of ac. sci atm. he studies at least a few hours every day on top of doing a full time internship at a pension firm.

Re: Considering going back to school
Coming from someone who is three exams through the process, you'll need a lot more than a penchant for numbers and statistics to be motivated to study for the exams. A lot of it revolves around finance, economics (especially the later exams) so keep that in mind.
The exams I've taken dealt with Probability, Financial math, and Models in Financial Economics. Because I'm heavily interested in math, I've put my accreditation process on hold and am working towards an advanced degree in Applied Mathematics instead.
